Default TV Land dissed Three's Company...

Did anyone else catch the Don Knotts tribute on TV Land last weekend? It was a marathon of Andy Griffith shows and TC shows. What I thought was a slap in the face of TC was the fact that the Andy Griffith shows were during the day and evening, but the TC shows were relegated to the middle of the night. What were they implying by this? That they were too risque for daytime showing? Please. There's a lot of stuff much worse than the innuendo on TC. Could it have been because they thought TC was such a poor quality that they had to show it in the wee hours of the morning? I'm ticked at them. I think it would have been better if they'd alternated AG and TC shows throughout the day, not only for variety, but to show the versatility of Don. What do you guys think?

TVLand is a piece of crap who don't know how to edit and they treat all their shows like caca.

Ireneparalegal,

I have to know... how did you manage to get Senior posting status with nearly 8000 posts in less than one year? Do you post 50 times a day?

I highly doubt that TV Land has anything against Three's Company. They ran quite a LOT of episodes of the show when John Ritter passed away, so if it was viewed as risqué or unworthy of daytime viewing, it wouldn't have been aired.

I think they simply went for the specific demographic that would be most likely to catch those episodes. For most Andy Griffith Show fans, they are much older and not as likely to tune in to anything past 8 o'clock. Granted, there are always exceptions to the rule, but most follow that pattern.

For Three's Company fans, they're more likely to be younger and up later during the night, so it'd make sense to air episodes of the show during that time. Again, there are exceptions to the rule, but overall that's the pattern of these fans.

Plus, it makes sense for TVLAND to showcase more of The Andy Griffith Show since that's the show Don Knotts is mostly noted for. Sure, he has his fans from when he was Mr. Furley, but when one thinks of Don Knotts, The Andy Griffith Show is the default show to the general public, not Three's Company (though to us, that may be different). That's why when John Ritter passed away, they played episodes of Three's Company more than anything, because for most (if not all) John Ritter fans, the first thing that comes to mind is Three's Company, even if to some of his younger fans the default show would be 8 Simple Rules.

Hope I explained this well enough for you to understand. I may be wrong, but to me TVLAND's decisions make sense. I just know they have NOTHING against Three's Company. If they did, they would've been less than keen to have John Ritter associated with the network when he was alive (like I said, when one thinks of John Ritter, one immediately thinks of Three's Company). Not only was he associated with the network, he also hosted the first TVLAND awards. Sounds to me they were proud of the show, but hey, they have so many old shows that they want to do right by and there's only so much room on their already over-crowded schedule. Try to cut TVLAND some slack, ok?

Take care,

Ed

No, I believe that it was because Don Knotts was known more for The Andy Griffith Show, more than for TC. Hey, be at least glad that they had TC on.I myself, was never a fan of the Andy Griffith Show, and never will be.

They did fine with the marathon. TV Land loves Three's Company. It rakes in the ratings for them. They likely did it because A) The Andy Griffith Show is where a majority of people remember Don Knotts from. Second is Three's Company. And TV Land still can only offer a limited viewing of TC because of contract (rather, airplay) issues. Both are big ratings grabbers for the network, so they probably won either way. I didn't see a problem with the marathon.

I love both shows, so I wasn't disappointed with the marathon.
There's always TC on DVD.

I thought the marathon was wonderful! I love the Andy Griffith show. I can remember watching the re-runs after school. I would hurry to finish my homework so I could watch it!! It brought back some wonderful memories!!

I love watching the DVD's of TC!! They always make me smile no matter what kind of mood I am in!!

I think that the reason they played Andy Griffith more is b/c he was known more for that than for Three's Company. Plus, he was in a lot of episodes, but not too many were about him or had him in it alot

Fact.... TAC barely... i repeat barely got pass a season... 1 season and Three's Company was always in the top 100 and even top 10 sometimes, it ran for almost 8 years and it would have gone a longer if it wasn't for the producers who wanted more money....

And yeah its my opinion too....

We aren't talking about Three's A Crowd. You said TC draws in a bigger crowd than the Andy Griffith show. TAC has nothing to do with the marathon.

FYI: It can't be Fact AND opinion. It's one or the other.

I love TC but TAGS was a bigger hit. It ran 8 seasons and was #1 in iits final season and its spin-off Mayberry RFD ran 3 years and was still in the top 20 when it was canceled. On top of that TAGS has been a syndicated winner ever since it went off the air. Those are just facts.

TC's ratings dropped big time in season 8. If TAC didn't come along more than likely TC would have ended at 8 seasons anyway. At the most it would have only went one more season. They were running out of ideas. The whole cast admitted that.
