I liked the first episode because it set the premise well and established the long and loving relationship between Wilbur and Mr. Ed.I recall Wilbur saying,"I always wanted a pony when I was a little boy.Of course,it's been a long time since I was a little boy." Ed then replied,"It's been a long time since I was a pony."These were the first words Mr. Ed spoke in the series.

I just loved the series, but the one that sticks in my mind is when MR. Ed and Wilbur went to the Dodger Stadium. I just loved that episode.

That's my favorite Mister Ed episode as well. It's been fifteen years since I've seen that particular episode. I think Mister Ed hits a ball during batting practice and runs the bases.

I just started watching this series on TV LAND and I LOVE it!!! I was cracking up last night when the episde with the bear-skin rug was on!!! That's the one where Carol's father buys she and Wilber a bear-skin rug! Wilber opens the box and it scares him! Ed doesn't like the idea of any of his animal friends being made into anything and demands the Wilber get rid of the rug! Wilber says he can't because my father-in-law gave it to me! Ed conjures up a real live bear to sleep where the rug was! He takes the rug out and the little bear cub comes in and sits on the rug like he's asleep! Wilber comes down late at night and goes to pet the rug and the little bear wakes up and chases him around the room!!! Wilber screams for Carol and runs upstairs and says...."Carol! It's alive...the bear-skin rug attacked me!!!" She goes downstars, but while upstairs, Ed calls the live cub outside and replaces the rug!

Later Wilber goes to a psychiatrist. (Something might be cut here by TV Land, because it's a choppy transition) and the doctor says that for Wilber to overcome his fear of the bear rug, he has to sleep on it! Ed is outside and Wilber sees the live bear in the doctor's window again! Ed finally confesses to the joke, saying that he just did it to teach Wilber a lesson about respect to animals. It is very funny!

I would tend to agree about the first episode.... what more perfect line was there for ED's first words.... than after Wilbur reflecting on his love of ponies as a child and saying "It been a long time since I was a kid"... for Ed to say....

"It's been a long time since I was a pony"**

And at the same tiime perhaps explaing EXACTLY why other than the assorted kids (no one would believe) Ed would ONLY speak to Wilbur... they were after all on the same level.... and no one around them was.

Also interesting that I saw this first .. in recent rerun (being a late night person in the 3 am ET TVLAND time slot) so saw it every other episode (since they were also showing it 5-6pm) and went throught it twice reviewing some/favorite episodes and seeing others again for the first time since the 60's (never saw the first NICK runs and didn't have TVLAND for its first run there.)

It has now been relegated to the 3:30am DEATH slot ONLY (where the original Bob Newhart disappeared from last I noticed) so I am guessing right NOW will be the last run of ED again for a while.... so catch it while you can

** and for "Rocky" Lane to get the job of ED's voice... having been a for some time a B serial cowboy out of work and crashing on Ed's trainers couch (And like Wilbur probably in the barn)... and when the producers happened to come look at ED as a potential for the show they were looking him over and Rocky just hapen to say "HEY... where's the coffee?" All collectively said to themselves and then to each other "Thats IS ED"

I am really dreading what FOX may do with the ever more certain remake....

The whinny, nasty Sheman Helmsley (last of DINOSAURS as vo) just ISN'T ED.

If I had to equate it.... it would be like Leon Ames doing Ed's voice

Where as Larry Keating (if not already the neighbor) probably could have eloquently pulled it off. ... but then again the series would have ended two years sooner.
(After all ED and Roger were much the same character... in temperment.... which is what made their interplay such fun vs the just plain nasty Kirkwood) )

Which Helmslely will probably take to and even nastier "urban" level (as FOX has stated is their intent)

BTW way I realize now why I saw My Favorite Martian from the onset... it is what replaced Mr ED in early prime before the last 4 or 5pm season with the father in law....

Same thing though.... I love Christopher Lloyd as an actor but the movie MF Martian was a horror and an affront to the spirit of the original series.... I have a feeling the new Mr Ed will be much the same.

But if so, will hopefully die a well deserved early fate to NEVER be repeated as short lived things of the last 15 years or so never have. (Were as many actually overlooked GOOD things from the 60-90's of that life time have have as weekend shows..... thiugh I do have to ask who EVER though SHAZAM was worthy of resurection... but for its REALLY FLIMSY early school childhood... at BEST moraity aspect)

I liked the Dodgers (Meet Leo D) episode too... except that they both felt the need to do the slide scene and it was so obviously a RIGID stuffed horse they just dragged down the baseline.

The other really improbables, like ED driving/flying/surfing were so much better done. Sure I didn't notice as a kid but as an adult... the slide is just so obviously FAKE... and didn't REALLY need to be done.... the batting practice and all the else was great as was the episode as a whole.... but that was its failing.

With a 143 it really is hard to pick just ONE favorite.... Though I have a number I have dubbed off to tape or still sitting on my DVR.... I'd say just guessing what I really have is a dozen and will be saved favorites... not bad really for a series something around 10% really memorable and unigue.

I have so many.

But my favorites are when Mister Ed wants to be a Dr. When Mister Ed wants Contact Lenses, and Ed in Hawaii. I like 'em all. Its so hard to choose.

I just got the "Best of" on DVD, but of course it barely scapes the surface of how many great episodes there were.

Same here. I'm not a collector so I don't have all the episodes. Some of my favorites are not on the "best of" set, many I may never have seen. So I have no idea of the good ones.

Besides that, my favorite was Ed the Masher. Ed really got Wilbur in trouble there.
