Default This so DIDN'T need to be written into this episode...

James having that ego trip abt JJ coming thru with the $$$ for Thelma's school. James was so adamant that JJ had talent and his kids were going to be "somebodies" down the road, so why react to this???? To me, it seems the writers had to come up with some "filler" time and this was the best they could come up with. That dream talk he and Flo had gets on my nerves so much. I hate it. Just a waste of episode time not to mention so out of character for James.

He was just disappointed in himself for not coming through for Thelma. That's how I saw it

Than he should have put that damn money back in the acct. instead of spending that money he got from the IRS, spending money on useless voice lessons, allowing his daughter to work part-time so she could make and save money for college.

Even if he would have put the money back in from the IRS and the money that he was going to use for the voice lessons. He still would have been in the hole. When he spent the money from the IRS it did go towards necessities except for JJ's gift. The poor man was just trying to provide for his family the best he could.

And I agree with the whole dream thing. They could have had James talk about something else, Like how not having the money was bothering him.

He may have still been in the hole, but putting a little bit at a time like when he first established the acct. wasn't going to put the family into the poor house. He would have had more than the stupid $8. Seeing that Thelma hardly did anything other than school, he should have let her get a simple part-time job. He obviously let her have one before when they had that $35 left over after paying the bills. Flo stated the kids and their "part-time jobs" helped the family.

I think it's easier said then done. But my question is, why was Thelma the only person who they set up an account for? Whatever happened to Michael and JJ? JJ should have had something since he was the oldest.

Yeah, someone asked that the last time this episode aired. It just seemed too "convenient" to have the writers set this up. I wonder abt that too. It doesn't seem right a parent would set one up for a MIDDLE child, but not the oldest, at least.

I know you would have thought Michael would have defintely had a college account as much as they talked about him going to law school.

yeah you would think so, or were they just flapping their gums as usual? If they weren't ready to send Thelma to college by the time she turned 18, then how did they plan to send Michael? Which is why James was foolish in not saving the money that he had received before. He is so responsible but yet, he is not thinking with common sense.
