If you've ever seen any of the Marx Brothers movies from the 30s, you know what im talking about. Groucho's character reminds me SO MUCH of Bugs Bunny. Of course, instead of a carrot he always has a cigar, but his wiseacre comments are VERY similar, even the tone of voice and the way he's always getting something over on the BIGGER guy-lol. Some of their best movies are "Duck Soup"(1933) and "A Night at the Opera"(1935). The other brothers are funny too. Im sure Harpo, who never speaks but has an endless supply of tricks in his coat, would remind me of other LT characters as well-lol

DEFINITELY! I always saw similarities between Bugs and Groucho. Love 'em
both. Great characters. |

I have as well. Matter of fact as far back as the FIRST one, "Porky's Hare Hunt" (4/30/38), where Bugs uses Mssr.Marx's "Of course you KNOW, this means WAR!"(Spoken, btw, NOT by Mel Blanc who was ALREADY doing Bugs, Daffy, and Porky, BUT by the director Ben hardaway, or so I'm told..) (He even WALKS like groucho Marx in many 1940s cartoons regardless the ditrector....
)

turned up AS "Groucho" in two cartoons, Freleng's "Slick Hare" (1947), where he delivers Robert Benchley's immortal line, "I hope you won't mind waiting while I remove these wet things and slip into a dry martini!"....and McKimson's "Wideo Wabbit" (1956), where he presides over "YOU BEAT YOUR WIFE" [the phony title which isn't shown on TV these days!!], confounds Elmer Fudd, and again delivers the "dry martini" remark {only DAWS BUTLER
impersonates "Groucho" this time, not Mel Blanc!!}. |
