have you ever bought a TV DVD that turned out to not be what you wanted?
I bought a 4-disc set of "THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES" off e-bay that turned out to be crap! The audio & video (the sound & picture) are OK; but not the best. But the episodes aren't in any kind of order, the theme isn't on them (both the opening & closing themes), and they don't show the entire opening and closing. Also, the episodes are edited and on the very first one, when the announcer (Bill Baldwin) says "THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES!" that's cut out and replaced with some Elvis-like guy saying "THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES!" I bought it when I had first gotten my DVD player, though, and I was fooled by the items description. Oh, well, it was only $5!

I bought the same one too!!! I can get rid of it now since I have the official Beverly Hillbillies Ultimate Collection. It has both opening and closing themes and tons of extras.

I bought a public domain movie when I first got my DVD player and it was terrible. Back then I didn't know what public domain titles were. Luckily I only spent $3 on it. I guess it's true, you get what you pay for.

Don't get sucked into buying very cheap DVD's that contain 'Public Domain' programming that cost anywhere from a dollar, $2 and so on. You think you're getting the bargain of a lifetime but you really aren't. Public domain television programs and movies have the cheap look to them, poor quality picture, scratchy, almost worn out prints, audio quality's horrible, muffled, unable to hear certain dialogue at times throughout the programs. Public domain programs used by smaller video/DVD companies do not pay any copyright or royalty fees, so they can quickly produce them and sell them very cheap for a quick buck. They claim the copyrights expire, but usually don't. Television stations and/or cable channels in various parts of the United States air public domain programs often because many won't pay copyright, royalty fees fearing they're too expensive and it out sources their budgets, renewals, securing rights for a certain period are also a pain to them at times. Same holds true on many, many oldies collections I've seen where you can get, say 60 hit songs from one or more decades for $10. Ask yourself, am I getting a bargain? What am I actually getting? Are the songs, scores and vocals original and authentic? You may have lots of doubts if you find them in music sections of major stores or in oldies record stores across the country. I'd rather shell out a few more extra bucks to pay for series on DVD I'm excited about. Take for example, Looney Tunes. I own three volumes of the Gold Collections and I'll tell you the picture quality's far more superior, cleaner, colors richer, more vibrant, audio quality's superb. Keep watching for upcoming release dates for many TV DVD releases throughout the year, places like Sitcoms Online and many others since release dates are announced, rescheduled, changed, pushed back, etc. The moderators and administrators constantly get the latest dates to let members and fans who are starting TV DVD collections, building them up slowly or quickly. Sorry about your "Beverly Hillbillies" collection, but keep watching for any season release dates as soon as they become available. |
