I know of a few who shouldn't, simply because they can barely write or read. I know there are teachers that pass kids on to the next grade and so forth. But it is irritating as hell to see how some people can function (barely) when it comes to basic reading and writing. I feel I earned my diploma and to think that others just "slided" on by. Mind you, I am not talking abt people that have dyslexia or some other learning disability, I am talking abt everyday people who slacked off and didn't care, etc. Then they look so stupid when they can't even read!!!!

I know what I am about to say is slightly off topic, but I think the problem with kids leaving high school uneducated is not the fault of the kids themselves, but our education system. Frankly, our system of education doesn't encourage kids to want to learn because it turns learning into a chore. Learning new things, being exposed to new ideas, discovering new ways of thinking should be fun not a chore.
High school literature classes should be encouraging young people to WANT to read, but that is not going to happen when an english teacher hands a boy or girl a book they may not have any interest in at all and tell them to read the first five chapters and that there will be a quiz tomorrow. This isn't going to make kids want to read. |

Yeah, I know of some people who never graduated from High School just because of their own laziness. I also know some people who graduated from High School and they still can't read or write above a 6 grade level.

Well, I am talking abt those who didn't even care, fell asleep in class, showed up late, missed classes and there they are getting a diploma. That is what I am talking abt. People who just "rode" thru high school, they didn't learn to read and write correctly because of "their own laziness" not the teachers fault, or the school, etc.

Yes. I went to school with a bunch of people who got a high school diploma that wasn't serious, skipped class, goofed off, and to this day, is not doing anything with their lives. I worked my ass off to receive my high school diploma, and I walked the stage with the class the year after I was suppose to graduate.

My cousin went through an accelerated program to get her diploma because she had a baby and needed to work. Now she's a good person and it's fine she did it that way, but I think it would have been better for her to learn more before she graduated.
