I'd have to go with stomache cramps mysely. I'm on medication for numerous stomache problems, and this is something Iv'e been dealing with for most of my life. What makes them the worst to me, isn't the pain itself, although it is very painful, but the amount of time that they can last. I think foot cramps are the most painful, but they usually only last 30 or 40 seconds, and I'll take 30 seconds of excrutiating pain, over really bad pain that lasts a long time, any day of the week. Do you guys ever suffer with any of these problems?? If so, which do you think is the worse??

Yeah...I abhor stomach problems. Always sends me into a panic attack.
Currently I am having neck problems, and I am seriously tired of them. But gotta give a shout out to menstrual cramps too! I hate to get them worse than I already do (they're just dull aches). |

Stomach...it sucks when I'm trying to jog, and a horrible cramp jumps into my stomach out of nowhere.
Those neck cramps. They seem to be even more random than the stomach cramps. And they last a lot longer, too. |

If I get out of bed the wrong way, I get REALLY painful leg cramps that take anywhere from 5 minutes to a day to go away. And let me tell you, trying to go to class on a campus built like WKU (uphill to class 1, downhill to 2, uphill to 3...) is not a situation you want to find yourself having a leg cramp in

1. Menstrual cramps!!!!!
2. You're "cramping" my style... BTW whenever you do get a leg cramp do this: right when it starts, or even if it's already in the process of killing you, stretch out your leg and force your toes to point in your direction; you know, just have your toes pointed as far as you can towards your face. a physical therapist told me this and ever since, I have never had to deal with a leg cramp EVER AGAIN!!!!!!!! Now, I just deal with the two that I posted above!

Just kidding. I had a friend who got a hysterectomy awhile back, and although she doesn't get her period anymore, it did make her go through the change of life within a matter of months. Any guy who's seen the episode of AITF where Edith goes through the change, knows what a scary thought that is. LOL!! Anyway, I don't mean to make light of such a serious issue. To all the women out there, I'm sorry you have to go through this each month. Thanks for the tip on the leg cramps!! I rarely ever get leg cramps, but when I do, they're usually like cripplingly painful, so that information may really help me. Does anyone here know what some of the causes of foot and leg cramps are?? Iv'e heard that dehydration, and too much caffeine can cause them, but don't know how true that is.

Yep, I say "menstrual cramps" are almost going to be number one for females. They just....hurt. Not only the abdominal pain but also other symptoms likely to be associated (headache, migraine, nausea, vomiting, bloating, fatigue, etc).... Those are what usually make it worse. It's just uncomfortable....
Anyway, as for the ones you listed, I would say "leg cramp." Ouch! It makes it difficult to walk. |

I have heard lack of potassium in the diet is one reason for leg cramps. One should eat more bananas and potatos. Also, like you said, dehydration, need to drink more water. All I know is, since my physical therapist told me that thing abt how to stop a leg cramp, I don't worry no more abt them now that I know how to stop it and not deal with that horrendous pain. However, there is another thing I want to mention. We have in our local paper a medical column by a Dr. Gott. He is in different newspapers around the country, he is not a local doctor here. Anyways, so many people have written to him letting him know that they no longer suffer from leg cramps SINCE they started putting a bar of ivory soap (i guess the brand doesn't matter) under the sheet right where your feet are. I have no idea what this does. Neither does the doctor, but there is always someone writing to him telling him they didn't believe this would work, but they tried it anyways, and they NEVER get leg aches/pains/cramps anymore!!!! These letters are from old people, young people, men and women. I just thought I would pass that on to you guys. Here is one link to him, but there are so many on the web for him, i just chose this one:http://www.unitedfeatures.com/ufsapp...ature.do?id=11 |

I guess that might explain why I have leg cramps once or twice a week, not enough Potassium. Too bad I really can't eat either bannanas or potatos, due to the fact that I'm a type 2 Diabetic. Oh well. Anyway Menstrual and leg cramps are the worst. |

Soap-under-the-sheet therapy for leg cramps
By Peter H. Gott, M.D. November 24, 2005 DEAR DR. GOTT: I don't know how the soap-under-the-sheet technique works for leg cramps, but it does. I have been diagnosed with restless legs syndrome and, since using the soap therapy, have had no symptoms. I now can sleep through the night for the first time in many years. Thank you for the tip. DEAR READER: Since I first published this remedy for nocturnal leg cramps, I have received dozens of letters from readers who endorsed this novel approach. Recently, I have also received mail from patients with restless legs syndrome, a serious and uncomfortable disorder of unknown cause. These RLS patients have had success with the soap. Although it would be irresponsible of me to endorse this as a cure for RLS, the initial responses have been overwhelming. I'll update you in a future column as I receive more feedback from readers. To review the technique briefly for people who may have missed previous columns, here is what to do: Take a bar of soap (large or small, new or used, but no Dial or Dove) and place it under the bottom sheet of the bed in the area of the feet and legs. Go to sleep and see what happens. If you sleep, undisturbed by leg cramps or RLS for a full night, let me know. And, of course, write me if the technique is ineffective. I'm looking for honest and objective analyses. Based on preliminary information, I am tempted to put soap treatment into the same, hugely successful category as Vicks VapoRub for toe and/or fingernail fungus. |
