Cool Season 5 (CBS)!

Oh, the 5th season (1969-70). Definitely the fifth season on CBS...hands down!

In case you don't get a chance to watch, here's how one can easily ID the season 5 shows: the main title opening is preceded by quick cuts zooming in on The Capitol, The White House, The Lincoln Memorial, and The Jefferson Memorial; Max now drives a gold Corvette; the opening titles now appear in a bold sans serif typeface, zooming toward the camera (instead of following Max behind the closing doors); Irving Szathmary's theme music is rescored with a more contemporary tempo featuring an intricate organ part; and the title of each episode is revealed at the show' start, followed by writer and director credits. Plus the CBS Television Network eye following the end credits. I love it!

And TVLand is going to rerun the CBS season of Get Smart right after tomorrow's show, too. Stayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy tuned!

Second was best. Fifth was worst. The plots were so STUPID. Max was dumb, but the show itself never was stupid until they transferred to CBS.

I haven't seen this show in such a long time, that there were no internet episode guides when I last watched it. I know they got married at the beginning of season 4, which was a drop in quality. And then they had the twins at the beginning of season 5, which was a much bigger drop in quality. So season 5 was the worst. And the best was either 1, 2, or 3, but I don't know which of those is the best. I would need to see those first 3 seasons again to decide. This is my favorite sitcom of all time, and the first 3 seasons are all excellent.

The 1967 season was the best, the show was in its prime and hadnt yet jumped the shark, shows from that season included the brilliant one where Max and 99 are convinced by a KAOS actor to send troops into Buenos Ares to destroy a non-existant base of operations, and the Groovy Garoo ep too!!

I like 3 and 4 the best, the show was at its peak then with all the takeoffs on movies and other series. 2 is very good too. Year one it was just getting revved up- the show has a darker, cheaper look in year 1. After that they had more of the elements of an adventure series and it looked more exotic. I've only seen a handful of year 5 shows, but it seems like it was the weakest season. Age Before Duty from year 5 seems like the epitome of a very bad episode.

Very true. Considering that they didn't want to do the marriage idea they got an awful lot of milleage out of it and a lot of fresh material. Plus 99 and the Chief stepped up a bit more in year 4 and carried more of the action. Absorb the Greek and the Day they Raided the Knights are the most prominent examples of this. This is the only season in which all 3 of them aer in every show. Seigfried and Schtarker (Sp?) are at their zenith this season. Also this is the year that Larabbee came into his own as a more fully developed character and we got to see just how dumb he really was.

Season five is my favorite. The switch to CBS gave the series a needed shot in the arm. New variation of the theme song and they used a lot of sight gags in the last season which gave the show a fresh look. Many great episodes in season five: IRONHAND, TREASURE OF C ERROL MADRE, BABY MAKES FOUR, AGE BEFORE DUTY, ONLY TWO NINETY NINE, DO I HEAR A VAULTS just to name a few. There were a few duds also but overall season five is my favorite.

My second favorite is season two, third favorite- season four, fourth favorite- season one. My least favorite is season three, but there are good episodes from that season also.

Probably my most favorite episode is the one with the first appearance of Sigfried where CONTROL and KAOS are kidnapping each others agents. Great episode.
