Default In "Thelma's Scholarship" why did the audience laugh when she said...

I don't want to go to a college that would encourage or put up with sororities like that.

You would expect a "right on" or immediate clapping, but the audience was laughing...I am speculating that they found it funny on the stupid side because who cares what the sororities do. Don't join and just get the free college education. I believe in that anyways, but when the audience laughed, I wondered why.

Don't try to figure out the Good Times audience....you'll give yourself a headache. They would laugh during serious scenes and cheer for silly scenes.

They laughed because it was stuoid not to go to a college for FREE just because of the sorority. My college had fraternities and Soroirities but I just ignored them because it wasn't for me. So yes they laughed because it was a dumb decision

so I am NOT the only one who found her statement STUPID. And her reasoning behind it ludicrous. Even James told her she didn't need to join the clubs. I swear to God, I just want to bitch slap Thelma for being so stupid.

I'm surprised Thelma didn't tackle that White Girl in the Hallway after she made that smart remark before leaving the Evans House-lol

or any of the Evans'...especially James. It would have been awesome to see James go out to the hall and scare the BEJESUS outta her. With his loud voice and his angry look imagine that!!! And then him telling her with that angry tone "Let me take you all the way down the elevator and to the ghetto outside that awaits your honkey ass!" "Then let's see you say BLACKS to the brothers outside!"

Someone in the control room could have fallen asleep, and their head landed on the audience's "Laugh" cue button...

When the "Laugh" light went on, the audience followed the cue, even though THEY didn't understand it either... they all figured, "I don't want to be the only one not laughing out here".

I believe that Thelma would have gotten with her and kicked her tail.
