"Best of DVD" Publicity My Foot!

Well board readers, Warner Brothers has done it again. They promised a bigger campaign this time for the best of DVD's but they lied. I opened up my Sunday adds today to find that none of them had the "Night Court" Best of DVD advertised...not even "Best Buy." "Best Buy" was the one store that advertised the Season One DVD when it came out. I just haven't seen anything promoting its release. To top it all off, I'm positive that the "Night Court" Best of DVD will be overshadowed by the releases of "Walk The Line" and "Lady and The Tramp" this week. Are Warner Brothers doing this on purpose so they don't have to do season sets? All that I have to say to the people at Warner Brothers is that I am *highly* disappointed at their publicity division. How can you sell a DVD if you don't advertise it in some way? Hopefully when the paper comes out Tuesday there'll be something in it about "Night Court's" Best of release. I'm sending our morning radio DJ an e-mail Monday to see if he can include it in his fun news for Tuesday.

Oh come now dont jump the wrong conclusions take a easy. Target Walmart and Best Buy are selling it this week.

About Warner brother they has a shake up there the team management. The former head of division was canned because he is not releasing enough tv show dvd and they are opening it up the vault to release all of tv show dvd to get some more reveunue this is came from the website news I dont know if this is true.

Now take a deep breath and take a easy.

I think Warner's expects the fans to find it on their own. They wouldn't wanna waste ad space on a cult tv show (even though it airs every night on cable), and probably think fans will discover it on an Amazon search or something. Like their recent release of Growing Pains Season 1, I saw NOTHING on that, and actually heard it here at SO. Though the cast did appear on Larry King Live to promote it. Highly irregular, but even I still missed that as well.

I think what upsets me is that "Night Court" was/is such a uniqe comedy classic. I remember Wanye Brady saying not too long ago that there is no other show like it around. Many people have commented about how there will never be another show quite like "Night Court." It was different than the standard sitcom. People are more excited about promoting crap like "The Simple Life" or shows that were only on for one season before being canned by the network. Everything is on DVD! Why can't they include classic comedies like "Night Court" in the mix? Why can't they promote it like they do every other show? Even "Seinfeld" gets more publicity than "Night Court" and "Night Court" was known as the show that helped establish "Seinfeld." Go figure. I'm also upset because, if you read people's comments on Amazon.com, they are basically refusing to buy the best of compilation due to their outrage over no season two release. This is not good. I don't think Warner Brothers are playing games. If this DVD doesn't sell, I really don't think they'll waste their time putting anymore season's out there. There has to be a better way to get our voices heard. "Night Court" was and always will be a show that never garnered the respect it deserved. But I think this should change. This cast deserves applause for their outstanding work in their efforts to make people laugh. This wasn't an ordinary sitcom...it was extraordinary. The ability to make people laugh is a difficult task beyond any capacity. Yet, if you do it the way "Night Court" did, you'll have a winning hand every time. My hats off to a fine cast. As a token of my appreciation for them (not Warner Brothers) I whole-heartedly intend to buy the "Best of" compilation. I plead with people to do the same. Please don't contribute to the cast getting a slap in the face again by Warner Brothers...honor them.

Very well said, Nitcrt1. But as we've discussed from time to time, even during its run, NBC sort of step-child'd it. Because it was slapsticky, and at times raunchy, it didn't get the respect of Cheers or the many fam-coms of the time. And Seinfeld...well, just to put it nicely, I don't know what the big deal is about that show. It was just humor I didn't "get", I guess.

But it's odd how even a show like "Wings", underrated and forgotten as well, is actually getting a *two* season release in May! Seasons 1 *and* 2 in one set. Paramount gets flack a lot, but if Warner's could've taken a cue and released the abbreviated season 1 and full season 2 of NC, they would've seen better results. Guaranteed.

To help promote the show, I e-mailed our local radio DJ asking if he would promote the release of the DVD. He e-mailed me back saying, "You got it!!! That'll be a great DVD." So, at least our area will get a "Night Court" plug.

Well, my local radio DJ came through. Not only did he mention the release of the DVD but he played the theme and talked about the show with his on air team. It was an awesome plug for the show. I just hope people heard the news and will go out and buy today. I couldn't have asked for a better mention of the show.

I should move to your market, nitcrt1. I didn't listen to the radio this morning so I don't know if my calls did any good or not. I'm going to venture out at lunch to see if any of our local stores carry the DVD. Los Angeles has many stores that 'should' carry this but most are promoting Walk the Line exclusively.

I have to say that I'm lucky to have a DJ in my area who is game for anything entertainment related. He's also a nice person too. So, it was great of him to do this. I did issure a big thank you to him last night when he replied to my e-mail. A lot of people listen to his morning show, so I hope that the promotion reached someone out there. Even if a few people go out there and buy the DVD, at least I know I did what I could to help the cause. That to me was worth the e-mail I sent.

That would've been awesome to hear the theme come on over a digital signal like that. "Bermp, bermp, bermp...diddle-diddle-do...." Ok, I can't do the theme, but you guys know it.

Good work by Nitcrt1 and the NC DJ, lol.

It *was* really cool. It was more than I asked for. I just wanted him to mention it when he mentioned the other releases that came out that day.
Close enough on the theme.

Here's a bit of trivia on the theme. When you hear the "whoosh" sound, it's made by bouncing one of those small rubber balls off a gong. My percussion instructor in college told us that one.

Thank you for the comments.

Okay, I just listened to it (have it on my computer) and I don't hear a "whoosh" noise in it.. LOL But cool Trivia.

Or I can't pick it out, I usually can.

Okay follow me on where this happens. Being a music teacher, I'll do the best I can to describe where I'm talking about...here goes from the beginning of the theme.

Da-dum...da da da da dum...diga diga da (whoosh)

That's the best I can do to help clarify.
