Default Cold Case Files Episode

A few months ago, there was this story on CCF about a black guy who went around kidnapping hookers, filming them while he was torturing them, and then killing them.

In the program they showed actual footage that the guy filmed, and the **** was so scary and disturbing, taht I had to turn it off.

Anyone know what the guy's name is, or what the episode munber is?

Default Maury Travis

I think you are looking for Maury Travis. He was a serial killer operating in the St. Louis Mo area near the Illinois border. There is quite a bit of info about him as he was also profiled on Forensic Files too I think. He killed himself in jail taking with him the reasons why he did what he did

He was also the focus of a Forensic Files episode titled "X Marks the Spot."

That was such an interesting forensic files (if its the one I'm thinking of). Wasn't there a map that police believe the killer left and they were able to search that website as to which IP number looked up a map to that place in that time frame and by that were able to locate their suspect. Absolutely fascinating. I do agree some things on there concerning the victims and what was done to them was very hard to hear.

Yeah thats the one Crystaldawn,

That guy was definitely a sick dude. He took his own life in prison even though he was on suicide watch. He never was even brought to trial. I really wish he would've remained alive so they could have studied him. The cold case files was much more explicit as they showed the videos Maury Travis had made of women he was torturing before he murdered them. He beat them and said things like, "You made a mistake, You see why being a hooker is dangerous." He lambasted them because of their "proffession" and had no value for the lives of prostitutes. Maury Travis was definitely on sick dude. Its funny that what caught him is the fact that he sent the reporter the letter saying "nice sob story about (victims name)" like he was upset that the life of a prostitute was given value by the news.

Kane is correct, the Forensic Files episode is called "X marks the Spot"

This Foresnic File just aired recently.

CrystalDawn is correct... the police tracked down who made the map.. since it was obviously done on a computer, found out only one website (Expedia) had that map, then gave the website a time frame for when that map may have been pulled based on when it was believed the victim disappeared and when the map was sent in a brag letter.

As it turned out only one person could have requested that map during that time.. the police got the ip address and had Travis dead to rights.
