Angry Bond Fans Threaten to Boycott Film
NEW YORK (AP) - They're shaken, stirred and just plain angry. And several months late with their response. A group of James Bond fans have launched a Web site to protest British actor Daniel Craig replacing Pierce Brosnan in the 007 film franchise, and boycott the upcoming Bond movie "Casino Royale." http://www.craignotbond.com The fair-haired Craig, whose recent screen credits include "Munich" and "The Jacket," was tapped last October to play the secret-agent icon. "EON Productions angered fans around the world when they fired Pierce Brosnan at the height of his popularity as Bond," said a statement on the site. "To add insult to injury, EON cast a short, blond, odd-looking Daniel Craig in the role of Bond." "Craig, described by The New York Times as having a 'pale, flattened face and large, fleshy ears' is a terrible choice for Bond. If EON Productions and Sony Pictures will not accept they've made a big mistake, then Bond fans promise to boycott Casino Royale!" Calls by The Associated Press to EON Productions and a representative for Craig were not immediately returned on Tuesday. Brosnan stepped into the shoes of dashing predecessors Sean Connery and Roger Moore to play a blue-eyed, dark-haired Bond in "Tomorrow Never Dies,""The World Is Not Enough" and "Die Another Day." In its statement, the Web site claimed EON did not want to pay for Brosnan or other high-profile actors Hugh Jackman and Clive Owen as replacements. |

yeah, they definately picked the wrong guy to play Bond, and as far as I've heard, Brosnan was quite shocked when they told him he was being replaced....

Craig was great in the movie "Layer Cake," but in all honesty, he is more of a character actor than a lead in a movie.

(AP) It took an old Bond to come to the rescue of the new Bond.
Roger Moore, who played Agent 007 in seven of the James Bond movies, said critics of the film franchise's new star, Daniel Craig, should give him a chance. "He's a helluva good actor," said Moore, 78, noting that critics haven't even seen Craig in the role yet. "So why attack him?" The fair-haired Craig, whose recent screen credits include "Munich" and "The Jacket," was tapped last October to play the secret-agent icon in "Casino Royale." A group of Bond fans have launched a Web site (http://www.craignotbond.com) to protest the hiring of Craig and boycott the upcoming movie. Moore, whose Bond films include "A View to Kill," "Moonraker" and "Live and Let Die," suggested the group was merely trying to attract people to their Web site. He also dismissed suggestions that Bond is obsolete in a post-Cold War, post-9/11 world. "Bond is fantasy, there's no real substance to it," he said. "It's a figment of imagination. ... (It's) sort of crazy, you know, a spy who is recognized wherever he goes. Spies ain't like that." Moore was in Toronto on Wednesday for a UNICEF event. He is a goodwill ambassador for the U.N. children's agency. He will be in Quebec City this weekend to take part in a charity film festival, "Vue sur Bond 007," organized by filmmaker Hilary Saltzman, daughter of Canadian-born Harry Saltzman. The senior Saltzman, who died in 1994, was, along with Albert Broccoli, the co-producer of most of the early Bond films. |

I feel sorry for the guy now.
Not only is Craig getting crap from hardcore Bond fans about playing Bond, but he recently knocked a couple of teeth out during a fight scene.

(WENN) Christopher Lee has hailed Irishman Pierce Brosnan as the best actor to ever play suave superspy James Bond. Lee, who played Bond villain Scaramanga in 1973 installment The Man With The Golden Gun and recently defended the casting of new 007 Daniel Craig, insists Brosnan depicted Bond exactly as author Ian Flaming intended. He says, "In my opinion - and I think I know as much, if not more about Bond than anyone, particularly about the characters on whom Ian told me Bond was based, Pierce Brosnan was by far the best and closest to the character."

(WENN) Dame Judi Dench has leaped to the defense of her Casino Royale co-star Daniel Craig, after the actor came under a barrage of criticism from James Bond fans. The 71-year-old actress insists Craig has got what it takes to pull off the coveted role, and has condemned those who have demanded the return of former Bond actor Pierce Brosnan. Dench, who again plays British secret service boss M in the upcoming movie, says, "I hate how people have been attacking Daniel Craig. It's despicable and it disgusts me. I have filmed with him in Prague and the Bahamas and he is a fine actor. He brings something new and edgy to the role. His critics will be proved wrong."
