The writers should've created a character for her, even if she only appeared twice on the show. Her name was probably called more times than anyone.

Also, was it true back then? Whenever you wanted to use the phone, the operator was the first one you talked to. Or was it an Andy Griffith thing?

I think that back then that was true in some small southern towns.

I know that in some small southern towns back then, it was true that the sherriff sometimes did 1 or 2 other things, in addition to being sherriff. Like Andy was also the Justice of the Peace, and in the pilot he was also the newspaper editor.
