Default Most users ever online?

Most users ever online was 838, 08-14-2004 at 02:05 PM.

Does anyone know why August 14th of 2004 had the most users on this site??

Just curious.

I was sitting at home in the Air conditioning watching it on TV.

It did get me out of work though.

well i was in myrtle beach so it didnt effect me. but...my brother on the other hand (btw he is my half brother and he was 21 at the time and living at home, ((he and my dad dont really get along that well))):

He was playing PS2 and was listening to the radio and had a lot of stuff pluged into an outlet. we went outside to get the mail and when he came in, the lights were out. he started freaking out because he though he blew a fuse (or something, i dont really know what im talking about when it comes to this stuff) anyway he started freaking out and went to my grandpas house to see if his was out too and boy was he relieved when everybodys was out.

I was working during the blackout....I think the power went out around 4 o'clock. I remember all the customers in the store getting freaked out because everyone automatically assumed it was a terrorist related thing. After managing to close the store (with no lights or air-conditioning in the dead of summer...yeah, that was fun), I high-tailed it home. It was so weird not to have any functioning traffic lights. The worst part of it was that my best friend was driving out to NY from Ohio to visit me for a few days (just so happens the power had to go out all over the Eastern seaboard that day ) and got stuck on the Long Island expressway during all this commotion I felt sooo bad.

Blackout was in 2003, but the most users online was 2004...

I had seen this fact so many times and I always wondered why there were so many on that date in 2004 as well...good question.

It must have been a dead night on television.

I know at one time the most users on SO was the day John Ritter died. It seemed everyone was here that day.

I'm skeptical about it... August 14, 2004 was a SATURDAY Afternoon in the middle of summer.

Blackout didn't affect me, but I had cable news on when it started. It was very strange at first trying to figure out what had happened.

I know, which is why I wondered why the blackout was mentioned since that occurred in 2003, not 2004.

There weren't NEARLY as many members here then... I don't know how it was, it may have been busy for 2001 standards, but not for today's standards.
