I visited Lauren Chapin's homepage and was pleasantly surprised to read that FKB won 6 Emmys during its run, was #6 in its last year and ran for several more years in reruns, during prime time after the series ended in 1960! Pretty amazing stats.
Which makes it all the more puzzling that we have never had a DVD or VHS release of the show. Obviously Sony has no interest, but perhaps some third party will someday take up the cause and release season sets of FKB. With all the bootleg DVD's I can find selling on the Internet, there is obviously a demand for the show. |

...stopped production after its sixth season (1959-'60), even though it was in the Nielsen "Top Ten", was because Robert Young decided that, after being "Jim Anderson" for five years on radio [1949-'54] and SIX on TV, he wanted to relax and take a breather before deciding what he wanted to do next. In essence, he was TIRED, and wanted out while the series was still a success. This is why CBS continued the air prime-time repeats for another two seasons (until 1962), and ABC for another one (to '63 in prime-time; daytime until 1967).
