Default Who would've fired Barney Fife?

I think the average sheriff or police department would've canned Barney Fife a long time ago. As bumbling as he was, who wouldn't have? he was a nice guy, just made too many mistakes. I know I would, iin a heartbeat. Who else?

If I was Andy I wouldn't have just because he was my cousin, but if I was anybody else I would have. I would have given him more than one try though because he is nice and I feel bad for him because he always screws up.

ANY sheriff would have given him the boot after his first week!

Just like Jane Hathaway from "The Beverly Hillbillies" would have would have quit a long, long time ago. And there's a million other examples on TV.

I wouldn't have...not in a small town like Mayberry where everybody knew everybody. Barney may have messed up but he always cared about Law and Order. If it had been any other Town would Andy have been fired? He alowed the local drunk free access to the jail and he didn't even cary a gun. I wish there really was a town like Mayberry.

In one of the color episodes, Barney was about to be fired from the Raleigh police department.

Andy didn't have the heart to fire Barney. That was his best friend/cousin.

Fire his ass!

This clown was not just a nut -- he was dangerous to all! Barney nearly gets people killed almost every episode. And who would want to hang around this jerk?? Barney, in seasons 3 to 5, became obnoxious and stupid. Thank God he left after season 5.

Hooray for Warren!

"Hooray for Warren". I don't think so. I would rather have Barney than Warren. After watching seasons 1, 2, and 3, Barney deserved it. Let me see:

-He constantly locked himself/Andy in the cell
-He locks up the entire town
-He's always letting inmates escape
-He is always getting things mixed up.
-He can't take a joke, but he always made fun of other people.
-He's just as scared as everyone

That he was. I would've smacked the hell out of him if he smashed cymbals behind my ears.
