i received a nice set of space above and beyond

i watched it all within a week

i knew this couldnt be real, to be able to get tv shows i never had a chance to see for numerous reasons

This is a wonderful site. I've only been a member a couple of weeks.

I put a quick post in the google tape-trading group and someone had a link to this on their homepage.

My jaw hit the ground when I pulled it up. Tons of posts daily. I love that.

Nice people, too.

I'm in TV heaven.

Welcome aboard. I've been trading off and on since the late 1970s, and I agree it can be habit-forming. In fact, you may think you've kicked the habit - as I did - but all you need to do is stumble back into a group like this, and you're hooked again. :>

I don't trade a great deal, but I definitely enjoy the conversations here. (And Harvey's lists!)

Default You should be proud

Be proud It all has to start somewhere.

My first trade was for Friday the 13th, the series with a user who has long since retired- and I was in shock this was an option, to just share older shows, liek recipes.
I was firmly skeptical for a long time.

Just try to be patient, you are going to get very very tempted, and weigh your temptation with patience (I think we all need to do that hahahaah)

You have plenty of good traders to check from, and this site hosts a bad and good trader list to get you steered in the right direction

Users like Loren, Agent13, and Debwalsh are huge traders in this world with sterling reputations and lots of advice- to name a few.

Don't be afraid to ask questions for help or even reputation checks- no good trader will be upset by it.

Congratulations on your first trade Enjoy your new obsession

Absolutely right, no trader who's worth trading with should be insulted if you ask for references or trader checks. And don't be insulted if someone asks you for the same. They're not foolproof, but they do help to establish a level of trust to get the ball rolling.

You can make lifelong friends through hobbies like this one. One of my best friends was someone I was introduced to in 1980 to trade a British SF show - back in 1980, the FBI were still confiscating people's video collections, and the Betamax decision hadn't been handed down yet by the Supreme Court, trader checks and references weren't just a polite formality, they were critical. I had to go through hoops to prove I wasn't an FBI narc or something before she'd start trading with me. 25 years later, we're still close. :>

Savage - picture me blushing. :>

I never was involved in tape trading but began trading back in 97-98 of mp3's, of old radio shows and early music from the 60's and back. Knew nothing about movies or tv shows. On day a friend asked me if I wanted these, and they were two vcds, 3 episodes each of the Phil Silvers show. I grabbed them and gave him mp3's of Connie Francis and Dean Martin. Dvds weren't in existance then. I was then shown how with a capture card and a program called pro director I could convert tapes to vcds. Remember no dvds then. Tv shows were a problem. Since a vcd could only hold one, one hour show, to make a complete series took a lot of cd-r's. Still it was fun and I met quite a few nice people along the way. Dvds came into vogue and early tv really took off.

Since I only collect early tv and most of the collectors aren't that young, I find that the somewhat older trader tends to be a little more reliable as far as honesty.

Last year the wife and I went on a cruise in Canada. One of the fellows I trade with met us at the ship and took us to Peggy's cove and some other sites. Felt like I knew him my whole life.
