UM Conventions - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

This may be just wishful thinking, but I wish UM or fans had a national or regional convention where UM merchandise, videos, DVDs and books could be bought or swapped and theries could be exchanged, like the UFO conventions in the San Fran Bay Area and Vegas? I myself have no financial means right now to attend one, but it's just an idea....a shot in the dark. I surely would LOVE to attend a UM convention in a hotel or convention center.

Any thoughts?

That would be awesome! I suppose for the time being there could be get togethers. We all live in different places though.

That would be interesting. Didn't they do that on one of the other SO message boards? I seem to remember some chatter about that.

I like the idea of an UM convention. It would have been wonderful to have Robert Stack attend, but obviously that isn't possible now. Instead maybe some of the writers and other people associated with the show would be interested in being part of a panel discussion. Of course we could always invite some of the actors/actresses who have been on the show. My number one pick: the "he has Jonathan" actress.

So uh... this is a possibility. We just need to get the ball rolling somehow. Ideas are a good place to start. The problem with UM as apposed to say a Star Trek, Star Wars, X-Files convention is the fact that because it was a reality based show, UM has very little merchandise that was produced for it. Granted I could be wrong. I was only 6 or so when the show premiered and I don't even really remember my first experience with it. So before I possibly put my foot in my mouth, were there any books about the show, or many magazine articles? How about posters or t-shirts.

All that aside, I think the idea of having writers or actors from the show is great! If there was to be a convention, another great idea is to possibly have well known cases represented by a family member, or law enforcement. Complete with detailed information on the status of the case to date. How it was solved, etc.

Selling any tapes or DVD's could be a violation of copyright. Not too sure about trading. It would be interesting to find out though.

Regardless I'm interested in helping out in any way.

Zero - That is good input. A couple things - I am in contact again with Cosgrove - Muers that produced UM. They are starting a new program and want to use our case in their new pilot for Lifetime called Cold Clues. I could probably find contacts for putting a convention together for UM fans. I will help in anyway possible if this is something that the UM fans are interested in. Also, I have put umpteen conventions together for the company I worked for and can help with that. Lastly, as a person who has worked with and has been on UM - I might of some help there, too.

It sounds to me that Cosgrove-Meurer Productions wants their own version of Cold Case Files, but I can assure that I approve of it.

Besides, when a certain format becomes successful enough, copycats are inevitable.

As for the idea of an UM convention, it never occurred to me, but it would be neat to see it happen. If it does, I hope that some will take place in the Boston area, since Boston is about a fifteen-minute drive from my residence (depending on traffic conditions).

Kane - I so agree that Cosgrove's newest pilot will be a lot like Cold Case Files with just a slightly different focus. Reality TV programs continue to be the rage. They intend to focus more on the investigators dedication. They are going to feature the ATF - FBI agent, Don Flickinger, that worked so hard on our case until he reached mandatory retirement age. We will actually have very little to do with it other than give them information they need from what I understand. And this being a pilot program in the designing stages - it may never make out of the editing room. Who knows.

But back to the convention ideas. Vegas wouldn't be a bad choice either because they have a lot inexpensive promotional airfares and convention packages. Then maybe some folks could take some time to to goof off and turn it into sort of a vacation at the same time. Just a thought.

Another idea here! We can have some other people that were on the show in other ways. Not just directly involved. Like that man who was struck by lightning and he could see the future and wrote a book about it. Or any other person who was featured on there as a writer. Like the person who wrote that book on communication from the other side. Who knows.

You guys have some great ideas here!!!! It would be so cool if people associated with the show could come and people profiled, etc!!!

Okay - here's another idea, too. John Cosgrove is the director of the program and copywrited the DVD sets and maybe he would help sponsor a convention and be a guest speaker. It would be great PR for them. I can inquire - I do have his direct phone number. BUT I do not want to bother him unless there is some real serious interest.
