I listened to some songs during 97.3 80's Weekend to recorded some songs off, and the announcer said, "Up next is Level 42." Level 42 played this BEAUTIFUL song called, "Something About You." I was too lazy to record it, and plus, it wasn't on my "List of wanted songs", and I wanted to get those songs recorded first, so i said, "The next time they play this song, I'll record it. Guess what? They played a song that sounded similar to it and I thought that was Something About You, so I happily recorded it. I realized something was wrong when I realized that "this" song never said the words, "Something About You"(after I'd listened to "this" song a couple of times.) I followed my hunch and went on the internet and searched the Lyrics: Something About You by Level 42, and the lyrics that showed up where completely different than the song I had recorded. So, today, I searched Lyric engines with a few lyrics from "this" song I recorded, and the results matched "this" song perfectly. The song was ABC's "Be Near Me."
I had recorded ABC's BNM because I thought it was SAY by Level 42!

I once actually thought Joe Jackson sang "Something About You."

"Something About You" was a great song, but all in all, I think as a whole, ABC were much better than Level 42. They were criminally underrated. "The Lexicon Of Love" alone should've made them as popular as Duran Duran and Culture Club in the early 80's.

Did they have more to offer than "The Lexicon of Love"? Duran Duran and Culture Club had more than one song to contribute to their fame. |

The Lexicon Of Love was an album (there is no ABC song called "The Lexicon Of Love"). As a whole it was more consistent than any Duran Duran record. Their subsequent 80's albums weren't as good but all had a few good singles on each. I like all three groups (I mean, I plunked down $30 for Duran's Greatest DVD) but I do think ABC is a tad too underrated considering how everyone is familiar with the majority of Duran Duran and Culture Club's hits, but even ABC's biggest hits are forgotten to most but the most hardcore 80's fans. Even "When Smokey Sings", "The Look Of Love" and "Be Near Me" are unknown to most people, and all three of those songs were pretty big hits when they came out in the 80's.

I like ABC's stuff, but I've been too lazy to actually buy a CD or it just isn't at the forefront of my mind when I go to media stores.

I have seen the 20th Century Masters CD, but most of the TCM collection lack the really good songs and have short playlists, so I tend to avoid them.
