Default Big Man on Mulberry Street commentary

I watched it this morning. Jay Daniel is the only one commenting.

He left me feeling empty. Plus, I didn't like the way he talking about Cybill and the fight with Glenn, not giving the viewers any of the specifics. Maybe her behavior was justified, and maybe it wasn't. It sounds to me like she was humiliated in front of the crew. Without telling what actually happened, Jay left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

Whatever happened to Sandahl Bergman? What a fantastic dancer she was (is?). I remember her in All That Jazz with Roy Scheider. Great stage presence.

Back to the commentary, Jay could have used a commentary partner.

That`s weird, they have 4 doing Atomic.. and only 1 doing Big Man.. It might have been better just to have let Cybill and Bruce do theirs on their own and maybe Glenn and Jay could have done Big Man..And then they could have moaned about Cybill as much as they liked but we wouldn`t have had to listen to it , we could`ve just left the commentary TURNED OFF!.

Big Man has never been on my favorite list. The funny thing about it is that it has some of my favorite Moonlighting scenes in it, but the episode has always bothered me.

Favorite scenes:

Hotel room scene with Maddie on the bed - superb!
Final shoulder scene
Maddie in bed waking up from the dream (messy hair)
Opening scenes in the restaurant and in Maddie's office

I guess I don't like the episode all that much because of two factors:

Even though she left him for another woman, I still view Tess as a threat.
Cybill looks uncomfortable dancing, so that makes me feel uncomfortable.

Below is a segment of Jay Daniels' commnetary from Big Man on Mulberry Street which I referred to in another post.

When Jay said, "Now this scene is sort of a landmark scene in some ways for the show in that there was an incident that occured during the shooting of the scene", he definitely got my attention. You would have to listen to Jay because he picks and chooses his words carefully trying to not be too offensive to Cybill but it seems pretty obivous that after Cybill didn't get her way, walked off the set and then had a meeting with Glenn, Jay and her attorney and agent, she pulled the familiar hollywood star "not showing up on set because I'm sick routine" trying to make a point.

Jay Daniels:
------------------------------------------------------

Now this scene is sort of a landmark scene in some ways for the show in that there was an incident that occured during the shooting of the scene.

And the moment that caused it is coming up.

This is the moment, when Cybill first sees Bruce's ex. And there was a lenghy discussion on stage on how she should react when she first sees this lady's face.

Cybill wanted to do it one way, Glenn thought it should be done another way and they had a discussion about it on stage. Cybill wanted to make one choice. Glenn preferred another. And Glenn in trying to lighten the mood said something funny and the crew fell down laughing and Cybill walked off the stage.

And we finally got her back to shoot the scene you're watching right now, but she was upset and we ended up having a meeting the following day. This was shot on the very last day of this episode. This was the last day of shooting. And the next day we ended up having a meeting with Cybill, her attorney and her agent. And we were going to start another episode that day. We ended up getting only 5 set-ups, only 5 shots for the entire day.

That episode was supposed to start on October 15 and we didn't finish it until 18 days later. 18 days later on November the 3rd because Cybill fell ill for a time.

That was of course the snowball effect which caused us to ahve such a tight schedule on the Shakespeare show which followed what we called the priest episode.
