I just listened to this and it was amazing, probably the best cast album I've heard next to "The Wiz" and "Dreamgirls". The final track, "The Color Purple (Reprise)" is really inspirational and probably the best track.

I loooooooove the movie, so I am curious to see how they could musicalize it.

From what I've heard, it is closer to the book than the movie is and it adapted to a musical very well.
