Default The Moderator Thread

Yeah um I'm very board so I just decided to create a random thread . This is a thread for the moderators to post what board they moderate and other non-moderators can say, "OMIGOSH I WISH I WAS A MODERATOR!!"

I have no desire to be a moderator. Too lazy. Even though I don't think in being a moderator you'd have to do all that much.

Once upon a time, there was a boy that visited a message board. He got to be well known at the board, and after about a year, demonstrated the requisite maturity to be a mod, and so was granted moderatordom (word?). Time passes, as it so often does, and the moderator moderated - from time to time. And all was good.

Then one day, this kid got a copy of Ye Olde Photoshoppe. And it all changed. This kid, by then an adult in his late teens, began making graphics for the site. And reviewing DVDs. And occasionally doing other stuff. This kid took on more and more responsibility, until becoming an...Admin a few months later.

A year passes, and all goes well. Other than being a little overbearing at times, it was a good run. Unfortunately, he discovered that the administrator gig doesn't exactly...pay. So he began looking for some place that wanted his presence that was willing to pay him, so that he could buy iPods.

And one day, the kid got hired, due largely to his work on that site he'd started out on just over five years ago, to a Public Relations position. A PAID position. A job he would have never gotten...had he not become a moderator.

But there's one more detail from this tale, you see....that little boy was me.

Today I got hired to do PR work for a new online magazine - and it is most definitely a paid gig. And how did I get that work

PR Work for Mag --> Writing Press Releases for SO --> Being an SO Admin --> Being an SO DVD Reviewer -->Being the SO Graphic Designer --->Becoming a mod at SO

Had I not become a mod here all those years ago, I would probably be working your...usual...job for a college student (retail/restaurant/whatever)

i wouldn't want to be a moderator; no more are necessary and i have too much of a life now to have enough time for it. as jeff stated a while ago, most people seem to want to be a moderator just for the sake of being one, not because of any reasons why they think the board is in jeopardy and want to help, etc. being one doesn't make you any more superior to anyone else.

I have no desire to be a Moderator. All the boards where just TJ moderates that I go to nothing ever bad happens so it would be useless for me to be one.
