Because it saves those new episodes for March and April when there's usually a lot of repeats. It allows them to compete with NBC's new Post-Olympics schedule and go head-to-head with ABC's new shows, rather than have a weaker repeat against it. ABC and FOX will have some repeats as well...

Unfortunatly those of us that don't watch the Olympics have to suffer through reruns.

Your going to have to either suffer through them then or in March or April, so what's the big deal? I think what CBS is doing is smart. If they run new episodes against the Olympics, the ratings will be lower than normal.

They got the NCAA Tournament in March too so a lot of them won't be seen until April at least the Thursday and Friday shows.

CBS skews a lot older than ABC or Fox, and the Olympics also skew older. ABC and Fox aren't in so much direct competition for viewers with the Olympics as if CBS.

I still think that it's foolish of ABC, however, to waste new episodes of DH, Grey's Anatomy and Lost opposite the games. Stupid, stupid.

I'm not big on it either...

I want my Housewives fix, but not at the expense of less people watching and still having several repeats in March and April.

Just for the record, I believe that Idol will be the only show to beat the Olympics(and I'm not 100% sure it will). I found some of the Primetime ratings from Athens and it was even bigger than I thought, considering it was tape-delayed like this will be.

At least I'll have Lost and DH to watch.

I'll watch certain events, but DH, Lost, Veronica Mars & now Grey's Anatomy will all be must see.

The Winter games always do better than the summer. Last time they averaged something like 35 million viewers a night. So if you have NBC airing the Olympics and the rest of the networks (save CBS) all airing new programming, all series are going to be squeezed. I just really don't get the reasoning behind doing this, especially for ABC's big hits, which are all serialized and viewers missing an episode could lose them altogether.

I was reading though that ABC is going to watch the ratings for the first Sunday night and if they're too low (which I imagine would be below 18 or 19 million for GA and DH), they'll pull them for the second Sunday. "Lost" only has one new episode, the 22nd is a repeat of the pilot episode.

As for "Idol," Fox can't really pull the show as it runs on a tight schedule. Pulling those episodes and running 4 hours a week for two weeks after the games could really hurt the show by oversaturation. And as with any reality show, missing an episode or two is not detrimental, especially in the putrid audition rounds. Even if "Idol" slips to 20 million, it probably won't hurt the show in the long run and it'll be better than Fox would do any way.

I Could understand tht ABC Has to air A new episode of Houewives beacuse it got pre-empted beacuse of the Super Bowl and the first post Olympics Sunday Free it going to be pre-empted by the Oscars and they should do Lost reurns to could helped the show in the long run as for Idol it a live event and Idol for the next two weeks will draw most likeley 25 Million that a a little lower but the Olympics on Tuesday Wednesday & Saturday will draw 25 Million put day well the rest of week will 30 Million

Apparently if you don't watch sports, you don't matter to the networks, which is why I wasn't watching anything Sunday night.

I also think it's funny when a few weeks into a new season, they promote a show by saying it's a "new episode." Well, it darn well SHOULD be!!

The DWTS finale is airing on the 26th(the night of the Closing Ceremony) pre-empting EM: HE and DH(AGAIN!!! ).

The Winter games are higher-rated because of the time of year. It's cold out and dark early, so more people are home to begin with.

Makes sense to save DH. DwtS finale will still score and ABC has 4 Grey's Anatomy episodes for sweeps. I don't think Olympics will do as well as you all think. CBS might be the only one in trouble. Fox, ABC will do well in sweeps, but CBS might not do as well as it should.

It dosen't bother me. I will be watching the Olympics on CBC (Canadian) because their coverage is about 200 times better. All I really care about is hockey though. I am even more obsessed with hockey than I am TV. I'd sell my favourite show of all time down the river for a good hockey game. (Wether it be my New Jersey Devils or not) And of course I am rooting for Canada! With Marty Brodeur back-stopping them, they are a shoe in. Sorry about that..lol

CBS is running all repeats except for Survivor anyway.
