This doesn't have to do with anything Brady, but Ray Bolger was on Partridge Family - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I know I'm already the mash-up 1970's culture KING of the Brady Bunch forum, but as I sit here watching the old Scarecrow, Ray Bolger, from "The Wizard of Oz," cavorting on the newest addition to my 1970s video catalog, "The Partidge Family," I am compelled to share with you a little play by play.

What trips me out most of all, aside from the fact that Bolger is playing Shirley Jones' dad, is that he is sooooo 70's, complete with long sideburns, swishy blue scarf and velvet pantsuit!

Trying to win over the "next generation," is the crux of the show.

By episode's end, Bolger has won over Reuben Kincaid, the Partidge's manager, and he joins them in their band.

Reuben calls it, "campy."

I realize, now, that the 1970's will never die...

And I am happy.

I've seen the episode. I don't follow what you are saying, though. He seemed like a standard sitcom guest character.

Whatever, the Partridge Family rules. If I had been a girl in the early 70's I would have probably had a major crush on Keith Partridge. He was a great musician who unfortunately has a negative attitude towards the Partridge Family music today.

Danny Bonaduce on the other hand has praised the music they did, even though he was obviously just lip singing all those songs.

I like that it seems you can step outside of yourself, now, and put yourself in, say, a woman's---or in my case, a gay man's---shoes and admit how FINE Keith Partridge was during his day.

I, myself, am trying to grow my hair back out into that same long shag, but it's going slow.

I guess the point I was trying to make is how amazing it is for Ray Bolger's generation to have lived through so many of the drastic changes of the 20th century and to have done so, apparently, with style.

I mean, there was a scene where he was blow-drying his hair and you have to stop and think that during the Wizard of Oz, the industrial revolution had occurred a scant 20-30 prior.

There were certainly no blowdryers at the time, let alone androgynous, "swinging," bellbottoms and scarves.

Unlike other actors, Ray Bolger didn't have an image to uphold. He could do anything he wanted.

Ole' Ray was on several times as Shirley's dad. Then in the last season, he was inexplicably replaced by Jackie Coogan (Mr. Duggan, the guy who hit Carol's car, to Brady fans).

He was best known as Uncle Fester in the Adams Family sitcom.

He also played The Kid in the movies of Charlie Chaplin.
