program need to change screen resolution

anyone using a good program to change the screen resolution on dvd's I have a set I am working on and one eps is 704 by 480 and tmpeg won't let me add it it to the same menu with my other title that is 720 by 480

Sounds like you are trying to put PAL and NTSC on the same disk. This could be a problem
because you not only need to change the resolution you also need to change the framerate and that can cause sync issues with the audio. This requires several steps and several peices of software:

1-Avi2DVD
2-TMPGEnc
3-VOB Edit
4-Goldwave or Beesweet with the GUI

Converting PAL to ntsc can be time consuming and a challenge in some cases.

Sometimes the best solution is to get a DVD player that plays PAL and connect it to either your computer to capture, or a set top DVD recorder.

I have some avi files in PAL format that I used to burn an NTSC DVD (or at least that's what DVD-Lab Pro told me). I'm pretty certain all I did was use DVD-Lab Pro...??? (It was late, I was tired & I'd run into some other problems, but I think that's all I did...) I gather this is probably not the best way to convert (warnings that there could be some jumpiness & such) but the resultant DVD was still what I'd call very good quality. I've only done this once so far, so maybe I just got lucky?

I'm not sure if this makes sense, so I'm going to do another disc from this same series ("Sapphire & Steel"). Gonna make notes this time. LOL!

Regarding the PAL/NTSC thing. Ok, I did another disc. DVD-Lab Pro doesn't accept avi files, so I used Winavi to convert to mpeg2. When I load the mpeg2 files into DVD-lab, it converts them to an audio stream (mpa) & a video stream (mpv). The info for the video stream shows the type as PAL. But I realized the first disc I did had been done in Nero Vision Express 2 (apparently because it allows you to add avi files directly, bypassing the Winavi step & DVD-Lab split-into-two-streams step.) And the resultant disc plays on our DVD players & looks very good, to me. So, it would appear Nero Vision Express 2 allows you to burn an NTSC DVD with a PAL avi as a source? Unless the avi file is neither & simply shows PAL as the ORIGINATING source????? Or maybe my source avi files are just fluky & in the minority of files this works well with????

I could also be that your DVD player will play PAL Disks. D/L Gspot from DVDrhelp.com and use it to check the resolution and framerate of your files...

it is PAL because the resolution is 720*576 and the FPS (Frames per sec.) is 25...your dvd player most likely plays PAL formatted disks.

That would be weird (I think) (that our players play both formats). Isn't it kind of hard to find players that play both? I've played this disc on two stand alones (both JVC (same model), fairly new cheapos ($80) my husband found at the grocery store!!!) and my personal DVD player (Toshiba). I also just tried it in our old (~6 years) Toshiba, which is VERY finicky and it played just fine.



Ok, I took the DVD (VOB format) & just ripped the first minute of the first episode to an avi file & ran GSpot on that...that would be a valid test, wouldn't it? Comparing source avi to target avi (via VOB)? The 1 minute avi rip I did has a resolution of 720 x 480 and FPS of 29.970. Since that differs from the original avi, is that NTSC?

under version 3.0.1.14 a bug fix is "The application froze when transcoding an NTSC MPEG4 file to PAL format"

So although it doesn't seem to be talked about much, it sure seems like Nero Vision Express will convert Pal to NTSC (once it's all digital.) (But then, again, it's late, I'm tired (again) and maybe I'm the only moron who even tried to do this in NVE2 & it appears NVE3 is new...(sometimes, ignorance is BLISS!))

Yes it is NTSC...the real caveat in converting PAL to NTSC or vie versa is keeping the audio in sync...if you can get over that hurdle you're gold.
