Post If you were the writer.....

Okay What's Happening fans!
If you were a writer for What's Happening what stories would you have done for the show?

Here's my list of stories....

Dwayne graduating from high school.
Dee and Dwayne having a little fling. I think it would of been more interesting to see them as teenagers than as adults date.
Mama meet a guy and marry and maybe than leave...I'd like to see this instead of hearing about it!
Shirley meet a guy and have a relationship.
I would of added the Spanish guy in the cast. LOL
A romance between Shirley and Raj or Dwayne or Rerun.
Shirley looks for a new job and becomes unaware involved in stripping....Hey! It'll be comedic.

It seems especially during the 3rd season that the writers had a hard time finding good topics but it isn't hard for me to come with good stories. I could see this show lasting 2 more season had I wrote for it, LOL....seriously though. There was so many possibilities for this show. From what I heard it seems the people behind the scenes sabotaged the show so it could end because they were sick of the boys so-called antics.

Use your imagination. Give me some stories.

Dee would have been too young to have a fling with Dwayne on WH.

In the last season she was 14, Dwayne just 19, that't not such a big deal to me but it would be for some. Dee didn't look 14. Girls today dating guys in their twenties now. Dee was acting so grown you wouldn't even notice the age difference and plus Dwayne was so immature and naive sometimes Dee would have to give him advice. They were in the same high school in the last season, freshmens can date seniors. If I written a little fling about Dee and Dwaye, it would have just been a little crush that wouldn't have hurt anyone though and it would end with "wait until were a little older" or "I'll wait for you" or something like that, which would of kept some more shows going and people would have kept watching and waiting to see if something more will happen.

That's what I would have like to written for the show but that's just me....what would you all like to have seen or would have written for the show?

Yeah she was ACTING grown but she wasn't. There's no chance in hell that I would let my 14 yr old daughter date a 19 yr man, no way. Now if she was 18 then that's a different story. There's a huge difference between a 14yr mind and a 18/20 yr old mind. In numbers it doesn't look that bad but mentally it's a bad idea. Now if she was 18 and he was 23 then I would be ok with it because she would be more mature but not at 14 IMO

If I was the writer.....I would clean Dee's smart ass mouth up. I would give Mamma Thomas some of the best lines, and I would have made sure she stayed in all seasons. I would give Rob a little bit more personality, I would not give Shirley a man, she was great the way she was. I would give Mabel an occasional love interest, I would also write scenes at Rerun's and Dwayne's home.

How would you know though? Girls sneak around and date older guys. You can't follow them around 24/7 Take this from a girl who was in school not too long ago.

It gets kind of boring not to see Shirley at least dating sometimes, some say she was unattractive, well I've seen unattractive ladies with men... many men.

I think by the 3rd season it had run its course. The second season I would have also kept Mama the focus of the stories and not given Dee such a big role, she was better at her insults. I would've also kept their Father Bill in the show, he could've given some advice and strengthen his relationship with his kids. The final episode I would have had Dwayne graduating, and Shirley buying Rob's Place.

I don't think no viewer would have wanted to see Shirley in a romantic situation-lol

Well now you seem to be speaking for everyone and I don't agree, I would have like to.

Dwayne was always 5 years older then Dee but I suppose to some of you as long as she was an young adult it was okay rather than being a teenager.

Talking No matter how one may look at it...

MsLadySoul has a point... as per usual! LOL, not kidding

No matter how anyone might look at it, even if it weren't a true scenario, I'd still get the feeling that Dee would somehow sneak out and go see/date/ hang out with Dwayne, while she was a mature teenager!
Look at all the supporting factors, though, that would make this occur no matter what:
1)the yielding inner-city environment (Watts), where anything & everything goes; (Just look at Sanford & Son for a bit)

2) Mama being very lax on Dee overall, and Raj is also, although to a point;

3) Dee having a fetish for somewhat older guys anyway, and by the same token, Dwayne liking younger girls. TRUST ME ON THIS ONE.

and finally...

4) Like MsLadySoul and others have said about Dee, she sure didn't look like a teenager, much less acted like one, and she developed so fast in a physical sense also. Dwayne loved this, and Dee was kinda glad/proud that he did.

There ya go. Think about it.

I enjoyed the last show very much, I enjoyed the singing, dancing, drum playing with Dwayne, Dee, and Raj but for the last episode I thought it should focus more on the main characters giving us some idea of what they would be doing since we wouldn't see them anymore. The last show was treated like we would see them all again....no real "goodbye" show, you know what I mean?

Oh No Totally.

Most black sitcoms did NOT have the "formal farewell" to their very last episodes.
Except for maybe Good Times and Sanford & Son, most of the others didn't really carry any sort of goodbye to them---and they most certainly should have.

I guess it just goes to show everyone that the majority of black sitcoms (like WH/WHN, and The Jeffersons) were not totally appreciated at the time that they were running/coming to a close. Isabel Sanford ("Weezie", The Jeffersons) further emphasized this as being fact, during an ET interview on ABC back in the early Nineties decade...
And that fact alone is very sad to realize, way after the fact. (Meaning nowadays)

What I meant by a romance, not a real romance with Shirley and Raj or Rerun but a kind of comedic show with one of the guys and Shirley having some quick little crush because of something nice someone done for the other and it leads to something but it doesn't last though, they just continue being friends. I saw this type of story on another TV show, it was kind of like an odd romance. Now Mr. TVResearcher are you not wanting to see Shirley in a romance because of her looks? How hypocritical of you after getting on us about not picking Rerun.
