is there any programs to compress seperate eps,I have some eps of a show taped in xp mode and want to get them into sp mode to reduce the number of dvds, I know there is a program called dvd shrink but I want something for individual eps. any help would be great! I would hate to do it the long way and load them back to my tv recorder harddrive and then re-record them back on disc at sp mode.

You can shrink individual episodes, if needed, with DVD Shrink. What you do is create the complete dvd, including the uncompressed version of the episodes you want. When you author it, the whole dvd might be more than 4.7gb, so you'll not be able to burn it, but save it to the hard disk.
Then open the files or image in DVD shrink, and choose the episodes you want shrunk (title sets), and change the compression to 100% (no compression) for those episodes you don't want compress. I've done it a few times, and depending on the source materials, it should look fine. |

I don't quite understand the process you're describing, but if I understand your situation correctly (you have eps on DVD & want to reduce quality of episodes so ~3-4 hours fit on a single DVD), here's what I'd do.
I'd rip each ep to a hard drive on my pc. I'd then author a dvd on the hard drive (most programs give you a warning that it won't fit on a standard DVD but will let you proceed anyway.) Once I have the "DVD" on the hard drive, I'd use 1ClickDVDCopy (or comparable program) to compress from the hard drive on the pc to a single layer DVD. I'd think this would be faster/easier than compressing each episode...??? |

Plus, when compressing a single disc, the software can use the least amount of compression to fit onto a disc, since everything is already there. If you compress individual episodes, you have to guess-timate how much compression to use, since you don't have your menus/chapters in yet.

Actually, I have misquoted the name...it's 1ClickDVDcopy & here's the website. They have a trial version (fully functional, IIRC). They also have VERY helpful forum support. Unlike many where the last post was 2 months ago. LOL! http://www.1clickdvdcopy.com/ |

For padre or anyone else who's used dvd shrink, how exactly do you shrink the files? I assume it's by lowering the percentage where it says "custom ratio?" I haven't used dvd shrink or anything else to compress files and want to make sure what the correct process is. |

That's right. You want to lower the percentage on the episodes you want to compress, and set the ratio to 100 (or no compression) for those episodes you don't want to have any compression done on. Each episode should be represented as a Title set (Title Set 1=Episode 1)
