This is how Gary Coleman got the role of Arnold Jackson on Diffrent Strokes
Conrad Bain was watching a episode of the Jeffersons in 1978 and when he saw Gary he felt they would work well together. So Conrad told the Producers that Gary would be best for the Arnold Jackson role.

For some reason, that sounds like a lot of baloney. TV producers were clamouring to get Coleman his own series for years.
