Default Why did they dumb down Jackie?

In the early episodes Jackie is shown as a fun-loving if not sometimes annoying sister and sister-in-law. Why did they make her out to be some paranoid and manless dweeb suffering from some "mother complex?" They almost made her character absolutely hopeless.

Alot of the characters changed. Mark used to be some "Marlon Brando" tough guy, who took no crap, not even from the parents...later on, he became this mindless, low IQ, didn't know his mouth from his butthole, who would have cheated on Becky for that waitress girl (Tracey Lords)...the old Mark loved Becky so and wouldn't have thought of doing that.

I hated how Laurie's character also changed. She started dressing so damn manly, had that short haircut. She dressed so cute when she and Booker went out on that dinner date; when it was Dan's birthday and she wore that cute brown dress with the brown hat; I don't know, she just turned psycho on us. Sadly, I think it had alot to do with Roseanne's real life "mental problems".

I agree Jackie was a little wild in those later seasons.

Maybe it was just tha progression of tha character, obviously. Meaning at first she was seemingly more fun loving, but after years of failed jobs/careers and boyfriends/husband, she like sum, would be less willing ta take tha risks or decisions of your past for fear of repeating . . . just a thought

Jackie looked horrible with that short haircut. She looked like a gym teacher or some guy trying to be androgynous.

How true. Laurie looked like she aged twenty years during the show's run. I guess working with Roseanne is no picnic.

It also appears like she didn't wear any sort of makeup. None. You are right. She aged abt twenty years. She was so cute in a tomboyish way. Then when she dressed up, she was pretty. Later on, she just wore a dress once, when she got married. It's no wonder her and Fred got a divorce, she was boring, plain and had nothing going on except her depression. She was going to therapy and yet, it seems she got worse!

Default Series with Laurie Metcalf and Johnny Galecki

I know Laurie Metcalf and Johnny Galecki had a short-lived series after Roseanne was over. What was the name of this? I only saw it a few times. I can't seem to find much info about this at all.

I was really upset that they made Jackie so 'out there'. But it's kind of neat when you think about it. She was really becoming a spitting image of her mother. The attitude, look, and everything.

With that said, I still would have preferred that they hadn't changed her character so much.

that's so true. hmmm, i wonder if that was the reason for doing that. When u think abt it, the mom was not happily married, she eventually divorced; Jackie was not happy in her marriage, although I can't remember why; she then became divorced and annoying too.
