Default pros and cons of the chances to come back

One Tree Hill is probably the most divided show on WB in terms of making the transition to CW... here is a list of things that will work in the favor, and things to work against it

Pros:
-it's been a profitable show for WB, great for sponsors. And plus there's the clothing line and also the soundtrack CD's
-Chad Michael Murray's mug still sells teen magazines, which is good for WB/CW to keep a "poster boy heartthrob" onboard
-One Tree Hill has been very successful on DVD, which means that even though season 3's ratings dropped, there's a great chance that it will still be a hit on DVD this fall (whereas I've read reports that 7th Heaven and Everwood both have been abandoned on DVD because of low sales). Sometimes something like DVD sales can factor into renewal because Warner knows there's money to be made with future DVD sales (remember Family Guy came back JUST BECAUSE of DVD sales)
-Charmed and 7th Heaven are history come May, which works better for some of the more moderate hits like this and Everwood to return
-The show is still young enough that it still could have a good three or four seasons to go

Cons:
-huge ratings plummet this season
-characters are graduating this season, and post-graduation seasons can be spotty if not done right
-WB/CW might take the backlash over the divorce as a backlash against the series instead of giving it another chance to redeem itself

The new CW network will kill off any show's chance that was on the bubble before the announcement of the merger last week.

I dare say One Tree Hill would have been a lock for a 4th season if not for the merger, now I dare say it may be gone, because there are already enough old UPN and WB shows coming back, plus all the new ones.

My CW lineup:

Sunday

7:00 Reba
7:30 new comedy
8:00 Supernatural or new drama
9:00 new drama

Monday

8:00 Everybody Hates Chris
8:30 new comedy
9:00 Girlfriends
9:30 Eve or new comedy

Tuesday

8:00 Gilmore Girls
9:00 Veronica Mars

Wednesday

8:00 America's Next Top Model/Beauty and the Geek
9:00 One Tree Hill or new drama

Thursday

8:00 Smallville
9:00 new drama

Friday

8:00 WWE Smackdown

Trust me,I'm a big One Tree Hill fan,but I think they should stop after this season so it can have a great ending.Otherwise, people are gonna stop watching it after it starts getting stupid

three seasons kinda feels like an incomplete run though. Roswell only lasted three seasons and four years later, people still wonder "what if" it ran for a fourth or fifth season.

I agree.. Im one of those Roswell fans who wished, wondered what would of happen if Roswell went for a fourth or fifth season. Everytime I watch Roswell I get bummed out knowing its not on the air anymore.. because it was such a great drama and the cast was awesome. Im glad Katherine Heigl, Emilie De Ravin are having success.. as well as Brendan Fehr making the occasional guest appearance on C.S.I:Miami. Its cool that Adam Rodriguez found success on C.S.I: Miami but Jesse was my least favorite character but didn't hate him.

I want One Tree Hill to came back for a fourth season. I agree with all your pros and cons [Hung Up] . Especially on the DVD sales.. One Tree Hill is successful on the DVD sales and maybe there some fans who are waiting to buy the DVD so they can watch it back to back. Theres fans who are anxiously waiting to buy the new cd [I am one of those fans]. CD sells can defiently help boost Tree Hill. I think there are still more stories to tell for Tree Hill, that it can last for a couple more seasons. I just hope the CW makes the right decisions on which series should continue and which should end, but its going to be tough alot of good shows on the WB.
