Default Book about Norman Lear sitcoms will be published!

I am pleased to announce that I finally signed a contract with McFarland & Co., Inc., Publishers (www.mcfarlandpub.com), and my book about Norman Lear's impact on the American culture through his television shows will finally be released! The date on that is tentative, but it will come out probably around this time next year, but possibly sooner, including before the end of 2006 (that is what we are striving for). The book contains never-before seen interviews with Rue McClanahan and Bill Macy from Maude, Susan Harris, who wrote the abortion episode of Maude, Marla Gibbs and Franklin Cover of [I]The Jeffersons[I], and Lou Richards of Gloria. The book is about 79,000 words (give or take a bit), and contains information such as the following:

~The character that the original draft of Maude's the abortion episode revolved around
~Death threats Norman Lear received in response to certain show decisions he made
~The original actor who was supposed to play JJ

But most of all, the book looks at how the show had a true impact on the American culture. For more, visit my website at www.dear-norman.com.

A fair third of the book is about All in the Family; Good Times is the second longest section with like 15,000 words (give or take); Maude is the third longest, and One Day at a Time, Sanford and Son, and the Jeffersons have about 6,500 words a piece. All numbers are subject to change.

If you would like to be the first to know about when this book is coming out, and how you can purchase it, please send me an email at sean@dear-norman.com. I am trying to put together a mailing list of all the people who might want a copy, so that I can notify them when the time comes. I think this would be the most organized way, and quite a few people have already mentioned to me in the past that they would be interested. So simply send me an email with your name and email address, and if you have any questions, I'd be more than happy to answer them.

I apologize that I am posting this on the boards of the other Norman Lear sitcoms; however, not everyone looks at every show, so I am just trying to get everyone that is interested down on the mailing list.

Thank you,
Sean Campbell

Since I contributed to the "ODAAT" section, I bumped up the answer link, glad you got a good ebay deal since a new copy is a bit costly.

If interested make sure you check out the currently airing first installment of CNN's "The Seventies" which centers heavily on TV of the 70's and Norman Lear.

Thanks for the support for my "ODAAT" reference book currently being written & scheduled for a late 2016 release date.

Have to first finish reference material for a upcoming "Holiday sitcoms reference episode guide book" (TBA) lastly look for the Dec. '15 release (BearManor Media) book on the cartoons of DePatie-Freleng by incredible author/friend Mark Arnold. A slight contribution by myself.

I checked this book out through interlibrary loan about 3 years ago. It was good and told me a lot about Lear.

1) I actually recorded that last night. Haven't watched yet.
2) You would have one definite sale from me on that one.
3) I would put that as a maybe, depending on the shows it covered.

Glad opus you have the TV Guide Book, it is a GREAT resource material.....

This is my best educated guess, as when I saw the new Val avatar, I thought in a second, I don't remember that one?, as I have every ODAAT related TV Guide cover as well as Valerie magazine covers, my favorite being the famous "US" Mag Cover" you should know it! LOL, In fact the photo in avatar is from the same photo shoot for "US".

Canada had different covers, the first U.S. ODAAT TV Guide Cover showing the three against a blue background differed in Canada. They used a alternate picture from the same photo shoot for the issue. I picked it up on ebay a few years ago as a strange oddity, so I am guessing that is where your TV Guide cover picture of Val originated.

I am currently trying to obtain extensive photo rights to include in my ODAAT book, there is so much to clear as usual when including photos in a book.

I will also include some small set pieces I have as well as photos of one of Pat Harringtons' personal script binders with his own handwritten notes inside.

Awesome. Canadian TV Guide. Never thought of that. And now I can dump the sig

And keep us/me up to date on the ODAAT book. I followed the making of a book on the show SOAP for a few years as the guy set up a website for it. That book also was published by BearManor media.
