I know it is a long shot, but I hope Crash sweeps the Oscars. What a great film that was.

I guess you think it's a long shot because of Brokeback Mountain.
That seems to be the case.

But it also seems that if another film is going to upset it, it will be Crash.

I don't know how Munich and Speilberg got nominations.
Most of the reviews for Munich thought it was seriously flawed, though a decent movie.

The Academy is way too in awe of Speilberg, enough already with nomimating anything he touches.

Exactly, Brokeback has got to be the favorite especially how so many people gush over it. Honestly, if it didn't have a gay theme to it, would it even be recognized?

No. The reason and only reason why the film has gained so much attention is because its about a gay romance. I would like to see Crash win best picture.

what a suprise with the nominations. Why do they only focus on the same ten movies. Almost every movie listed is in three categories. The last movie I saw in theaters was Shrek 2, so I can't comment on this for sure, but I am sure there were a lot better movies than the ten listed.

When I saw the nods announced this morning, I couldn't believe I predicted the supporting actor category correctly! I'm a bit surprised that Walk the Line didn't get a Best Picture nod. In my opinion, Brokeback deserves everything it's been given. I don't find it overrated at all.

critics kiss Ang Lee's ass anyways, remember Crouching Tiger:Hidden Dragon? I have seen a number of gay/lesbian themed movies that were better than Brokeback that the Academy never even noticed. Peter Sarsgaard did a wonderful performance as a bisexual in Kinsey and was snubbed last year, not even nominated, and I thought he was better in that than Heath or Jake were in Brokeback.

Plus, I've even encountered people who despise all things gay who love Brokeback because they thought it's a beautiful movie, with the type of ending that really makes you think about society.

King Kong dosen't get a best picture nomination?!?!

I've seriously never heard of 3 of the 5 films nominated for best picture.

I'm surprized "Crash" got a Best Picture nomination.
I heard it was a good movie, but it came out a while ago, and usually the academy forgets about films that came out early in the year.

I'm glad "Good Night And Good Luck" got some recognition. It was a very good film, and George Clooney has proven that he's not just another TV guy who got lucky in films. He's got some talent.

the academy usually shies away from big blockbuster types like King Kong outside of the technical catagories (if you noticed, no Star Wars, Harry Potter or Narnia either), plus, the movie got too many mixed reviews. There's the occasional Titanic and Lord Of The Rings that comes around and woos the critics, but most of the time, critics don't usually all agree on those films being works of art. King Kong also was not the blockbuster that the studio execs hoped for. It's done well, mind you, but I think Universal was aiming for $300-$350 million and King Kong likely won't make it to $225 million, so it was a little underwhelming in that aspect.

Which three were you not familiar with?

Cinderella Man should have gotten a Best Picture nod, and Russell Crowe not getting nominated for best actor is an outrage!! Munich was overrated, and definitely did not deserve even a nomination, much less a best picture one. I saw it, and it was way too long, and as was already stated, flawed in many ways. Hopefully Crash will win for best picture, March of The Penguins will win for best documentary, and Paul Giamatti will win for supporting actor. Other then that, I really don't give a crap about the entire show.
