What Sitcoms had similar aspects or characters?
Im saying like how everyone says that The Golden Girls have similaritys(sp) to Designing Women or Ellen being the female version of Seinfeld etc. |

It's amazing how many similar things are between the Bob Newhart and the Dick Van Dyke Show. Both are two of my favorite shows, but that have many things in common.

Growing Pains and Family Ties. Both had the same amount of family members. Not to mention, both shows added a kid in their later seasons, who aged like 4 years over the summer. The oldest sons were always joking around and getting into some kind of trouble. And they both lasted 7 seasons.
Friends and 2 Guys and a Girl. Both had a cast of 6 twentysomethings that always hung out in someone's apartment. |

"Taxi" and "Cheers". In fact, I remember reading a review of the first episode of "Cheers" when it first aired, on the same night that "Taxi" was starting its last season (right after "Cheers" and also on NBC) and it said that "Cheers" might remind you of " 'Taxi' set in a bar"

With a tip of the hat to Rick Mitz's THE GREAT TV SITCOM BOOK (1980): TV
situation comedies can be broken down into seven types: domestic comedies (FATHER KNOWS BEST, DONNA REED, ALL IN THE FAMILY); kid comedies(HAPPY DAYS, LEAVE IT TO BEAVER); couple comedies (I LOVE LUCY, BURNS & ALLEN); sci-fi comedies (TOPPER, MY FAVORITE MARTIAN, MISTER ED, BEWITCHED, THE MUNSTERS, MORK & MINDY, ALF); rural comedies (THE REAL McCOYS, BEVERLY HILLBILLIES, PETTICOAT JUNCTION, ANDY GRIFFITH); ethnic comedies (AMOS 'N' ANDY, SANFORD & SON, CHICO AND THE MAN); and career comedies (DICK VAN DYKE, CAR 54, SGT. BILKO, GOMER PYLE). As Mitz points out, "there are, of course, some shows that overlap." There might even be a show that doesn't fit into any of these categories (although I can't think of one offhand). |

Although its obviously not as good as Seinfeld i feel Ellen is an underrated show and i used to watch it every week. I think with the episode where she proclaimed herself gay it kinda lost some steam. |
