Dual Sided DVDS---Can I get some feedback

Lately, I have been investing in the DUAL sided dvd's

Meaning, DVDS that you can record on both side.

Excellent in cases such as short run shows, liek Rerun Show, Thin Blue Line etc-
To where you can keep an entire series on ONE disc for space-
And still keep killer quality.

However, as I am new to this format- Can anyone give me feedback on them and your personal experiences with them.

The price isn't that much more, but very few people use them. Why?
Do they damage easier? And so forth

Any feedback is greately appreciated!

do you mean DUAL-LAYER or actualy dual sided as in side A and side B?

NOT sure about dual sided, but if you meaning DUAL-LAYER ( a disc that records on ONLY one side BUT contains 2 layers allowing for 9.4 gigs, twice the amount of storage space as a standard DVD R)

anyways.........the DUAL layer discs allows for double the space, however are still too pricey when conducting a 40 or 50 disc trade.

you can get dual layers discs, a good price would be about $3 bucks each. again, a little high if you were to have to copy and trade 40 or 50 at a time.

they have come down in price considerably. they use to be $10-$15 bucks each. just like standard DVD R discs USE to be expensive. when the dual layers discs get in the 20-30 cents each price range like DVD R's are now then i betcha you will see the trading community use them all the time.

as you pointed out, they are nice for short series or special shows as they allow more recording space, but when it comes to trading them that may be a little much for some

You said dual sided so I guess you mean said a and side b. I don't like those myself. One more side that can get scratched and I like to write on the disc big enough for me to see. With these discs you would only be able to write on the hub, if you wanted to write on the disc at all.

Th dual layered discs that sugar ray talked about will be great as soon as they are the same price as the discs we use now, like he said.

i dont consider them for a variety of reasons

cost, no matter how much they have come down, they are still much more than the ty discs i buy

the chances of a bad disc are far more than triple

and when it happens, a complete reburn on both sides is the result

then if i sent one out, how does the person know which side is which, i never do on a retail set, they are labeled so differently, sometime they are labeled on one side--much confusion

and since we normaly trdae disc for disc

a person woudl say they have 5 discs --but 10 disc sides, and that would cause mix ups as well

i see only negatives as a result

the current discs are cheap, easy to write on, and most people understand their use, pretty hard to change

in the near future, there will be 15-30 gig single discs

they will hold 3-7 times what a normal disc does now, when that system gets out to the public, then there will need to be some massive rethinking

imagine 70, 30 minute shows on one disc, in great quality

family matters on 3 discs

Well Gosh Loren, now the dvd people will read this and put the dual sided dvd workers out of business...
And that just lost sales with me, Pshw!
