what was the first show you saw where someone died?
For me, the first drama was an episode of "Medical Center"-a medical drama in the 70s. As for the first sitcom, I don't remember. |

probably The Chief on Gimme A Break in 1985 (Dolph Sweet died in between the 84-85 and 85-86 season and the season premiere dealt with his death)

Mr. Hooper on Sesame Street. I believe back in 1983.
My dad recently told me that he remembers having a talk with me about it. On the show, Mr. Hooper died and the gang had to tell Big Bird. It was very sad. At least Mr. Hooper's Store is still around. |

Sitcoms
The first was probably Valerie on The Hogan Family....The saddest was at the end of the episode when the oldest brother was in the attic and he was yelling at his mom, because she left them. These are also really sad: Edith Bunker on Archie Bunker's Place. When Archie finds the slipper by the bed. God that's sad. It was also horrible when Abby Morgan died on Dawson's Creek. The best character on that whole damn show. She got drunk, and drowned. Jenny from Buffy. Cordelia on Angel. She went into a coma. Dr. Mark Greene on ER. And I guess I can add Johnathan Kent of Smallville to the list. It was sad that he died, but it was heartbreaking to watch the reaction of Martha. (Annete O'Toole) |

It was probably James on Good Times. Their might have been some cop shows before that but I really don't remember.
The first real life death was probably Freddie Prinze on Chico And The Man. |
