Default Is it disrespectful to call your parents by their first name?

I personally think it is. I know quite a few people that does this. They say it's nothing and the parents don't mind. That is not the point. Parents and kids does not need to be buddies. That needs to be separated. I couldn't imagine calling my parents, especially my mother by her first name. I say call your parents Mom and Dad.

i don't really think it matters.
i call my parents by their first names when i can't get their attention, or when we're in public and if i yell "mom" 15 different ladies turn around.
i call my friend's parents and my boyfriend's parents by their first names though. and my band teacher, haha.

I don't think so, I call my mom by her first name, I don't know why, but I have done that since I could talk. I've known some kids who's parents make them call them by their first name.

Yes, I think it matters. You should refer your parents as mom and dad, whether you can get their attention or not. It is the principal of the matter. They don't need the kids to call them by their names, they deserve that respect as mom and dad. My father was never there for me, but I would never call him by his first name.

My mom thinks it's disrepectful that I call my Aunts by their first name. Instead of saying Aunt Rhonda, Aunt Cheryl, and Aunt Lorie, I just always say-"Hey Lorie or Hey Rhonda.. So is that disrespectful? Someone let me know

I used to call my parents by their first names occasionally as a term of endearment. But no, they were/are my parents, and I called them Mom and Dad.

As long as they don't mind you leaving the Aunt off, then I don't think it's disrepectful

How do you figure that? My parents are basically my two best friends at this point. I know for a fact that if they just played the parental card 24/7 I wouldn't respect them nearly as much as I do now. I love that we can be stupid and sarcastic and they don't get bent out of shape about it.

Back to the question, I've given my parents plenty of names other than mom and dad. loll, I totally went through a phase where I would call my dad nothing but Jehovah.

I'm ****ing crazy, I know. But it's fun.

What about your parents-in-law?

Do you address them by:

1) Their first names?, or
2) Mr. and Mrs. _____?, or
3) Mom and Dad?
