Does anyone remember the segment about the man who was driving on a trip with his dogs and was murdered? I remember that authorities thought that he had picked up a hitchhiker. I think the murder victim's last name was Walker and he was an alcoholic... this was the very first UM segment I watched, so it was probably from 1988 or 1989.

Yes I just watched that one yesterday. The victim's name was Don Smith. He was depressed and on a cross country trip with his dogs. He went to visit his daughter and she said an unidentified black man was with her dad but they didn't seem to know each other. He came to visit his daughter at a bar and she was upset with him as he was drunk and beligerent so she left and thats the last time she ever saw him. I believe it was a few days later when Don Smith was found and he had been murdered. In some other state near the same time Don's truck (that the hitchhiker apparently had stolen) was involved in a hit and run accident. The driver (who witnesses said was black and matched the description of the man seen with Don Smith) fled the scene. They traced him back to a nearby hotel room where he was staying. They were never able to find out his name but did find blood stained clothes in his room. I've never heard if there was any arrest, I would like to know as well. The thing that I don't understand is if the hitchhiker's plan was to murder Don Smith from the beginning why did he travel around with him even helping Don locate his daughter and waiting out in the truck for him while they visited then down the road kill him?

Yep, that's the one. It REALLY creeped me out when I was younger.
Bummer that there haven't been any updates that we know of...
