Default Today's Episode... (1-25-06) Ruby and Arnold

So what does everyone really think about what happened to Ruby and Arnold? Do you think they really died that night of the car accident? Do you think think they were alive weeks after the accident?

This case really baffles me cause I don't understand why they would get out of the overturned car and shut the door on Ruby's cousin. Especially since they were all so supposedly close.

Anyone know of any updates or anything on this case?? It's so sad that the 2 of them left behind a child. Now she's without both parents.

I think they probably both died that night. Perhaps they fell through the ice and the ice immediately froze over or or it may have been snowing. They may have been disoriented and just wandered off without helping the cousin, or they may have tried to get the cousin out and went for help. The cousin was unconscious so she may not have known that they tried to help her.

I'm not sure how to explain the two different stages of decomposition, but perhaps Arnold's body ended up in a part of the ditch that froze completely while Ruby's body remained in water.

Also, Arnold's body was found only 15 feet away from Ruby's body, but they had to drain the ditch before they found it. That says to me that the bodies were very well-hidden in the ditch, and they could have been there the whole time no matter how diligently they searched.

As far as eye-witnesses go, I think there have been enough cases overturned on DNA to show they eye witnesses aren't always reliable. There was nobody else that came forward to corraborate the witness's story.

This case really confuses me when ever I watch it. I feel bad that a child was left behind. I am sorry (no offense) but they did not seem too responsible. The segment showed how they were out drinking all night, and the father let them drive home while they watched the kid. They should have not drove home in that shape and should have acted a little bit more responsible. I feel bad about this case though, very strange.

Nowheregirl - yet again, a succint, and I believe - accurate summation of the case. This goes back to my "Solved Cases" thread - wherein I think UM creates unlikely scenarios to explain rather simple unsolved cases. They were disoriented, left the car and fell through the ice. The likelihood that in the same night that they flipped their car, were subsequently killed by a fourth person, had their bodies moved to a separate location, then placed back at the scene of the accident months later - is highly unlikely to say the least.

Agreed. Excellent summations by nohwheregirl and toothytile. Simple case that UM, and probably the locals, creatively expanded.

I think you all sum up the presentation of this story very well. I believe the officer interviewed stated that the fact that the bodies were in a completely different state of decomposition supported the foul play theory. I am not a forensic expert, but I have a strong feeling that he's completely off base -- that such a phenomenon is quite possible.

Also, if they met with foul play, why did the cousin mysteriously get left in the car? Why would this mystery person not have killed all three of them? She was clearly at least partly alert when these events transpired - why leave behind an eyewitness to the crime? It makes no sense.

I believe that they were there the entire time, just in the water maybe hung on something under the water where their bodies wouldn't surface. There was a gentleman here where I live who was fishing and later only his boat was found going around in circles, still running. They drug the lake and searched but couldn't find anything. It was hard for the family because it wasn't known if he was dead or just faked his death to start a new life somewhere else. Ten years later, his body surfaced at the lake, no doubt it had been hung on something in the bottom of the lake but at least he was found and the family finally had some closure.

That's a terrific example, summerbreeze1959. It's why I get frustrated in cases like Adam Emery or others where you have authorities make declaritive statements like, "if the body was here, we would have found it."
