serious business

to cut down on your number of--i cant play this disc----

this player is the ticket

i cant tell you how many people i know, have had numerous problems playing burned discs, and after i told them to get this unit, those problems almost went away

in case you didnt read the specs, this is also a progressive scan unit

one more problem this unit helps on --is the menu problems

some players just dont read and understand menus

this unit has two seperate buttons to get to the menus that are unseen by most other players

i cant tell you how many times i have heard, the menus dont work on these discs, and i have a $250 sony, or _______

well they work on this one

theres also a version of this player, that allows pal and ntsc as well as code free--region free play

at one time all were the pal and ntsc, but philips had to change the chip

you can still find the older pal-ntsc version on ebay for about $80 plus shipping

it will play a pal disc and convert it to an ntsc viewable picture

still a bargain for a great machine at $80

Hi Loren!

I can't get the link to work and don't see the 642 on the list at that site. Are you referring to the model #622/37B for 29.99?

Thanks!

I must admit that buying a cheap DVD player was the right thing for me to do because since paying for a $42 DVD player, all the burnt Discs play with no problem. So I was about Sony, I just always thought a $200 DVD player could do everything a $30 DVD player could do and MORE.

it may be a hard concept to understand, but sony is not what it used to be at all

i also have a very $$ mitsubishi, that i got free for buying a big screen, well lets say that the mits plays 50-50 , about half on a normal day

the very same discs play just nice on my philips cheapo

i also have heard many good things about the $39 cyberhome from walmart as well

but that one doesnt have a display to tell where on the disc you are, so thats a feature i would like

also theres apex, which is very reasonable, and seems to be a bargain as well

$$$$$ doesnt mean quality or compatability

Default I have

That happen a few times with new traders, or traders who have dvd players that have issues
i ALWAYS tell them to test it on another player b/c 99% of the time
the issue is the dvd player NOT the discs

bad burns do happen, and some discs have more issues than others
but having 2 dvd players is a must in this game
