Why did the Huxtables act too dignified?

I think that was one of the main reason why some folks weren't into TCS all that much. Dad is a doctor, the mom is a lawyer. They raised five children who never got into any trouble (which is good if you ask me. The way youngans act these days). However, it was the way the family carried themselves such as:

The kids answering the telephone, "Huxtable residence". Not that there's anything wrong with it, but kids don't answer the phone like that, period.

The entire family acting as if they're better than everybody.

Theo reacting to a kid hiding a joint in his book, trying to fight the boy. Doing everything he could so the kid could explain to Bill that the J didn't belong to him. He should've done the most reasonable thing: SMOKE IT:

I had just started high school when TCS first premiered and you would'nt believe the backlash, especially from school.

The only huxtable kids who got into trouble lots were

vanessa sneaking to baltimore
Theo riding in a car that was being chased by the police.



I don't recall Denise, Rudy, or Sondra ever being in any trouble.

I think the reason the kids answered the phone that way was because sometimes Cliff's patients' would call his home and it is dignified and proper to answer a phone that way, especially for a doctor.
After working at a law office for many years, talking on the phone has changed dramatically for me and my kids. I hear them saying things such as: "She's not in right now, may I take a message?" "She's on another line, would you like to wait or would you like to leave a message?" etc. etc.

My kids picked up on that because of how I talk on the phone and how I have business calls come into our home. My kids talk different with their friends of course, but they are sharp when that phone rings.
