A staple of Bill Cosby's standup act in the early 1960s was his childhood recollections of Fat Albert and the gang from Philadelphia. The cartoon series,
which managed to combine entertainment and education, won an Emmy Award in 1974. The show dealt with such topics as drug addiction, family life and various social problems of everyday life, but always with a generous dose of humor. Cosby even used the show as the basis for his doctorial thesis in education. |

I was a child of the 80's so my memories of Fat Albert are a little foggy since the show was mainly aired during the 1970's. It started in 72 and ended in 82. I wasn't heavy into Saturday Morning cartoons until 1984/85

Fat Albert was a great cartoon, though Nick Adams made a very valid point about it in his book.
