I watched a lot of episodes in the recent TV Land Marathon and it got me to wondering. If a show like AITF were made today, what would be the issues? What would be the clashing forces. The Archie of today would probably have been a child of the 60s. What would his job be? What would be the characteristics of the new meathead? What would he look like? And I wonder if today's Archie could boast that nothing happened sexually until he was married. What would their theme song say? Possibly, "Boy the way the Beatles played...........

They made that show: it was called FAMILY TIES and "Meathead" looked a lot
like Steve Keaton! But seriously, on that show the mellow 1960s clashed with the conservative 1980s in another generation-gap comedy, reflecting America's changing values in the Reagan era. In fact, it was President Reagan's favorite show (not surprisingly). Steven and his wife Elyse still espoused the liberal values of the idealistic '60s. They were a loving family, though the kids never could understood those Bob Dylan records their parents kept playing. It was sort of a reverse-ALL IN THE FAMILY, you might say. |

I watched Family Ties. I never thought it was as edgy as All In the Family, however. That was the 1980's. But what about a show in 2006. I said Archie would have been a child of the 60's. Assuming he were 50 today, he would have been a 60s child and teenager of the 70s. |

All in the Family just wouldn't work in today's television. Everything is too gosh darn PC.

I think Archie Bunker would still have been cranky and prejudiced and just plain
ignorant no matter what era he were born in. (And, let's face it: we wouldn't have him any other way. That was the source of the humor. Just my opinion.) |

I often wonder what Archie would have thought about todays issues like The Iraq war, Bush Sr and Jr, Clinton, etc.

i think a new archie bunker would of been played by a black or latino person
hey maybe even an arab? lol....and discuss about terrorism and racial profiling,....police brutality....america invasions and etc...but a show of that magnitude would never appear on tv today |

The PC Police have not killed Archie Bunker's prejudiced attitudes in this day and age, believe me. They're just not openly voiced. I think HBO could get away with a series like that, though. Network TV, never.
