Default Things that made you go hmmmmm.......

1) the girls never had hairy legs
2) the skipper never lost weight
3) what did the women do (except Mrs. Howell) when it was "that time of the month?"
4) how did the white clothes remain sooooo white?

And how were the girls able to do those beehive hairdos and stuff?

The thing with GI is that you should not look at the mistakes, other wise it just looses the fun. But its a good thing the girls didn't have hairy legs.

What batteries did they use for the radio? They lasted for years!

they were able to recharge them by using the salt water. Someone on TV did an experiment with this in real life and it realy works.

oh come now, GF, you know it's fun to think abt these things. it brings out alot of questions and thoughts from people like you!!!

When their clothes were being washed (referencing Skipper, Gilligan and Professor) what did they wear? they only had the clothes they were wearing when they became stranded.

if it was a three hour cruise, why did the Howells and the Girls have so much wardrobe and luggage with them?

yeah I know, I should try to loosen up.

It is uknown the clothes they have on the island. A lot of different episodes tell us different things about there clothes. In Home Sweet Hut they say they have the only pair of clothes, and they use the Howell's extras while theres is being dry. Then in other episodes when they are packing because they are getting rescued they pack other clothes. In Water Water Everywhere Ginger says she made a dress out of Gilligans duffel bag. In Castaway Pictures Present a crate of clothes washes on the island. So over the years they were they there amount of clothes changed per episode. I want to know where The Proffesor got his suit that he wheres when he introduces the Mosquitoes ans Hamlet. In Love Me, Love My Skipper, they have outfitts and dresses. Those must have landed on the island too.

As answer to your first questions.
1. The guys have a knife razor type thing so maybe the girls use that?
2. Some peoples metabolism will not change when the get older. Plus I am sure Coconut cream pie is not that good for you.
3. I have not idea
4. They make there own soap on the island which they use to make the radiocative vegetables they ate not work and they have there own bleach which made Gilligan bald.

I thought it was funny that The Professor could actually say that the castaways were suffering from a Vitamin C deficiency. Didn't anyone ever tell him that pineapples contain Vitamin C. And I found it hard to believe that a deficiency of Vitamins could wipe them out as quickly as he indicated. Plus the fact that the natives in the neighboring islands managed to survive and thrive with the same diet as themselves should've been a heads up too.

And getting back to clothes, did anyone find it a bit odd that Gilligan chose to wear a heavy long sleeve shirt in the tropics? That's one of the reasons I have a preference for the 1st season episodes. It showed Gilligan wearing only a T-Shirt and going barefoot while sleeping; which made a lot more sense.

the long sleeves bring up something too. Mrs Howell has all those furs. Enough to have Gilligan dress up like an ape. Who needs fur on the beach.

For hair, they could listen on the radio. There used to be more radio programs. One might have been fashion show or something. They could guess what it looked liked.

For pie, we did an experiment in Chemistry where we had salt water mixed with sand. We used a funnel to remove the sand and we boiled the salt water and we had just salt left. A sugar substitute might have been used. I will search Wikipedia to see if you can make your own. No oven, but you can cook a pie on a stove like Jiffy Pop? They had those caluduns (spelled wrong) too.

Sugar Cane might be grown there and just not seen. It grows in warm climates? And this is from Wikipedia

Mill white sugar, also called plantation white, crystal sugar, or superior sugar, is raw sugar whose colored impurities have not been removed, but rather bleached white by exposure to sulfur dioxide.
There was sulfer dioxide from the volcanoes there.

the hairdos reference was made because hairspray and other hair gels were needed for updos, beehives, etc. That's the hair question that was brought up. Not how did they know abt the styles.

as for the volcano thingy you brought up, thanx for reminding me. When the island was shown in distance shots, there is no volcano shown.

also, they were in the tropics...sunscreen? they were not tanned.

you got me about the hair spray. I don't know how you can make that. You are right. No volcano in the opening shots of the island. It could be because the first season is in black and white, but they look a lot tanner in the second and third season then the first.

Yeah, that's what I meant. Now, by the time we get to "Rescued from Gilligan's Island", then it might be more of a question of how did Ginger & Gilligan know about feathered back hair in 1978, etc.

Huh? I thought Dawn Wells was very tan! Also Bob Denver in Season 3.

As an aside, if it were my show, I would have kept the hair/clothes much simpler. No false eyelashes or elaborate hairdos. Maybe the guys could be shirtless and unshaven much of the time.
