Default DVDs vs. reruns

I know everyones been surprised at something on a DVD that you've never seen, because it's been cut out for sydnication-but what are some of the things you saw for the first time, on DVD?

In the "DICK VAN DYKE SHOW" episode, "The Sam Pomerantz Scandals" I was surprised to see the opening scene, when I got the DVD, since that's always been cut out in sydnication. And in "Somebody has to play Cleopatra" about half of Lauras calypso song is cut out in sydnication. And in the episode with Vic Damone, a little bit of his song is cut out.
And, I've seen things in episodes of "MASH", "THE BEVERLLY HILLBILLIES" and other shows on DVD that I've been surprised at.

Your topic title doesn't really reflect your question. I don't get much in re-runs so can't comment. However if I had a choice between watching a dvd or a re-run, dvds win hands down. Phew!

I'd much rather watch DVD's. No commercials, you control it. And you can watch them when you want.

As for your question I really couldn't answer b/c I don't watch much TV but a lot of DVD's

Quoted for truth!! The syndicated broadcast of Bewitched always cut up episodes of Samantha's second pregnancy, the one where Esmerelda put a spell on Tabitha's milk and Sam drank it by mistake and was constantly hungry. There is a scene in the grocery store of samantha grabbing things from Darrins cart they always chop it and continue the scene at home.

and what about in the "MASH" episode "Sometimes you hear the bullet" (the one where Ron Howard guest-starred). In sydnication, they always break for commercial right when Hawkeye walks back into the post-op after talking to Col. Blake, then continue the scene after the commercials. Then, the show ends, but they don't show the tag scene of the episode. I was pleasently surprised when I saw it for the first time on the DVD.

when/if I know what episode is coming up. I will actually sometimes take the half hour to compare an uncut DVD on the computer to the episode on television side by side. I was shocked and apalled at the edits for a Roseanne season 2 episode I recently compared, they edited mostly Roseanne and Jackie scenes but left all the Becky (yuck) moments entact. I've made the comparisons with Seinfeld and Golden Girls before when I know what episode is coming up.

I just seen Sanford And Son on TVland, episode from season 1 where Fred gets a housekeeper. They chopped the beginning where Mary asks to sit down for a break and cuts to her and Fred sitting down.

That's what upsets me. Why in heavens name would someone want to buy a DVD when you get the same lame edits as on tv. I'd be mad if I bought a show's season on DVD and it's the same way as on tv. I heard even Roseanne complained about that.

sometimes, you don't know that a DVD's edited until you play it. That's what happened with me with that crappy 4 disc set of "The Beverly Hillbillies" that I got on e-bay.

It all depend whether the show is currently being shown on cable or your local area. If a show such as Gimmie a Break is not being shown at all then i don;t think most fans would be bothered by edited eps.
