Default Have you ever put up a thread that you thought would be....

Really popular, but then only got a few replies on it?? This has happened to me many times. I'll get all happy thinking Iv'e come up with an ingenius thread, and so I'll get away from my computer for a few hours, come back thinking there'll be like 50 responses or something, only to find out that there's only a few, if any?? I think it's worse when you've put alot of thought and time into something, and know it's something that could have been really enjoyable. Those are the most disappointing ones. Anyway, in this thread I'm giving you a chance to post up the titles of some of those threads that you thought would be great, but turned out to be not so great.

Yeah, and it's really nobody's fault when this happens, I mean, if people aren't interested, they aren't interested. It just kind of sucks for the person putting up the thread.

Oh yeah, I know the feeling. I started a bloopers thread at the Mama's Family board that I stickied...but there aren't very many responses to it! I may have to merge some of the separate bloopers to make it a bigger thread.

I don't start threads here on CC too often, but it seems that every time I start one, it goes to 4+ pages or more. My last CC thread that I started got 45 responses to it. *shrug* But I have had some threads here that didn't get many responses either.

It's happened to me plenty of times. It bothers me but not too much. On Chit Chat, try to keep in mind that people don't like anything too complicated. They don't want to have to work at something. I include myself in that category.

On Chit Chat, I've found that the secret to a successful thread is to keep in mind that most people like to talk about themselves. It's human nature and the reason why the "What's your favorite fill in the blank?" type threads are so popular.

I've bombed many times here at Sitcoms Online.

Oh well, I'll keep trying, read my stuff or don't. As long as somebody gets it, I'm happy.

Yeah, that's a very good point. I'll even admit it, I'm the exact same way. I feel bad sometimes because people will write out real complicated stuff about their lives, and on certain days, especially when my A.D.D. is really bad, I won't even read it, because I'm just looking to find things that are short and sweet, and am just looking to have a good time. Other days I love those threads, because I'm in a mood to give advice, or possibly help someone out.

The last thread I started that I really hoped would be popular, was the one where I wanted people to post up links to funny videos and stuff. I was hoping it would become like the best looking men and women threads, or the complaint department, or even the last movie you watched thread, but that probably won't happen. I will milk that thread for all I can, because I think it has potential, but like you said Janice, it's probably just a bit too complicated, as some time and work actually goes into it.

Yes, it has happened to me. There are times when I believe the most popular people around here tend to get more replies in a given thread, actually. Like, if I try and be funny and respond to some kind of "funny news" or something, I usually don't get a response or a reply. But... it seems if someone else who's more popular says something funny, others laugh or agree with them, etc. I dunno.... I try not to take offense into it. It's hard, but it does bother me sometimes. Oh well... I guess that's life....

I do agree with Janice, though. It seems the threads with "Most/Least Favorite" or "Do you have this or that in your city" are more popular. You're right, Janice. Most people like simple threads.

I sent this to the first five people via PM who posted in this thread (with the exception of Irene, I missed your name...sorry! But this goes for you too) and now I figured I'd be better off posting it here instead of just sending it again in groups of five:

I just wanted to say that ALL of you are vital members here on SO, and quite frankly I'd find it pretty strange around here if any of you were no longer around.

So don't worry...even if you guys don't always get a bunch of replies, you're all still very needed around here no matter what.

Aww, you're so sweet for doing that I think the same of you--in fact, I was wondering where you went during that short time you were away I think everyone here is an important part of SO and I'd be sad if anyone was to stop coming here.
