Default ABC benches Emily's Reasons Why Not; Jake in Progress and Hope and Faith on hiatus

The only one I'm halfway surprised about it Hope and Faith. The hour-long DWTS results show last Friday was COMPLETELY boring.

Friday, January 20
8:00 - 9:00 PM
CORRECTION (DANCING WITH THE STARS THE RESULTS: 203 A) - Please note new run time for this program (it now replaces “Hope & Faith” from 8:30-9:00 p.m.). (TV-PG; broadcast with Spanish audio via SAP) (CLOSED-CAPTIONED)

Monday, January 23
9:00 - 10:00 PM
CORRECTION Delete “Emily’s Reasons Why Not” and “Jake in Progress”; insert “THE BACHELOR: Episode 802” (OAD: 1/16/06) -- (TV-PG,L) (CLOSED-CAPTIONED, plus Spanish subtitles via secondary closed captioning)

Friday, January 27
8:00 - 9:00 PM
CORRECTION (DANCING WITH THE STARS THE RESULTS: 204 A) - Please note new run time for this program (it now replaces “Hope & Faith” from 8:30-9:00 p.m.). (TV-PG; broadcast with Spanish audio via SAP) (CLOSED-CAPTIONED)

Monday, January 30
9:00 - 10:00 PM
CORRECTION Delete “Emily’s Reasons Why Not” and “Jake in Progress”; insert “IN STYLE CELEBRITY WEDDINGS” - Program information and TV parental guideline to come. (CLOSED-CAPTIONED)

that no one was watching. Actually, I watched, and I'm sorry I did. It was AWFUL on so many levels.

I wasn't surprised. When I found out they were going to pre-empt this past Monday for a REPEAT of The Bachelor, I knew it was dead.

Production has been halted though... there are 5 unaired episodes and I do not expect them to see the light of day(maybe over the summer if at all). They certainly won't air them during Sweeps.

Both are not going to air for at least two weeks. They may air again, especially Jake. Hope & Faith will for sure return, and maybe in a new slot.

I always think cases like this are so strange. ABC has been hyping this show FOREVER, and I've been seeing commercials for it for I don't know how long.

Then, the show finally debuts, and is practically cancelled as soon as it's finished.

It's not canceled. It is just being benched. There is a chance the other 5 episodes will air. Jake in Progress has 12 episodes remaining, and they will most likely air in another slot.

Yeah... I think Jake will air again and Hope and Faith will for sure air, but Emily is done. Burning off the remaining 5 is the same as being cancelled(like Hot Properties). Production has stopped.

I think that "Emily" and "Jake" have failed for many reasons other than low ratings. For example:

1. They are up against CBS's powerful Monday night comedy block which, remarkably, has not lost many viewers since "Raymond" left. CBS is doing what NBC has tried to accomplish, but has failed miserably, in replacing their Must See TV Thursday night group with stinkers like "Joey" and "My Name Is Earl".

2. ABC has never been able to find anything that would replace Monday Night Football after the football season ends, mercifully, each January. Now, MNF will be gone forever and so far it's not looking so good.

3. The biggest 'reason why not' of all: ABC has completely underestimated the intelligence of viewers. Are we supposed to believe that Heather Graham and John Stamos, two of the most photogenic and physically attractive actors of the past 2 decades, are playing characters that, week after week for what they hope will be the next 4 years or more, have trouble getting dates??? Come on, people, that's just dumb!

I should also note that I liked "Hope and Faith" and I will miss it. Hopefully, another ABC show will bomb just as badly as "Emily" so that it can somehow find its way back in the schedule just like "Scrubs" did. But for now, that's just wishful thinking.

Almost any guy would stay with someone who looked like Graham, no matter how annoying or stupid she might be. As for the other show, weren't they adding gorgeous Charlotte Ross as his girlfriend? I would have watched just to look at her. Graham and Ross, now that's what I call must see TV!

whatever happened to the days of letting a show find it's audience? Cheers was in last place it's first airing, present-day NBC would yank that off the schedule without hesitation after the first week. ABC should've at least given the show maybe two months before killing Emily. They promoted that and Jake In Progress to death to where they should've let the audience come to it instead of deciding that since it's not getting Lost or Housewives numbers that it doesn't deserve to last. At least shows like Hope And Faith and Joey were actually given ample time to attracting viewers before finally getting put on hiatus, Emily's Reasons Why Not wasn't quite as lucky.

The latest...

Two-hour all-new episodes of The Bachelor: Paris will now air on Feb. 6 and 13. Meaning, Emily's Reasons Why Not and Jake in Progress will not air now until Monday, Feb. 20 from 9-10pm. The Bachelor: Paris - Women Tell All special will air at 10 p.m. that night. Then on Feb. 27 the two-hour finale of The Bachelor: Paris will air from 9-11pm.

In other news, Crumbs will get an all-new episode on a Tuesday. Tues. Feb. 7 at 9:30 p.m. Two new According to Jim episodes will air this night, too, one at its regular time of 8 p.m., and another at a special time at 9 p.m. Commander in Chief will be pre-empted for this night only.
I could see ABC moving Chief to Mondays next season and going with a four comedy night on Tuesdays next fall.

Ouch. Poor Heather.

Can't say I blame them though, "Emily's Reasons Why Not" wasn't good.

But benched after one episode? That stings.

I liked "Jake In Progress" last year. They changeds the sotryline a bit this time, making Jake pine for his lost love Charlotte Ross, a chgaracter who was never mentioned in the previous episodes. They should have kept things the way they were.

You think they're gonna air these shows in sweeps? Not a chance in a million years will they air on that date.

Interesting. I heard Chief has been behind on production, so that could also be a reason for the delay.

I do expect it to move though... it's dying on Tuesday at 9 due to no lead-in support and House is about to be stronger than ever with Idol on now, plus The Amazing Race is returning at the end of February.

Today is ABC's press tour... I'm hoping to find out a lot more about Thursdays and Fridays after DWTS, Mondays, and where the midseason shows they have(Brian, The Evidence, Less Than Perfect among others) will go.
