Talking Things you noticed at The Golden Globes

Just a few things that I noticed at the Golden Globe Awards tonight.

Drew Barrymore appeared to not be wearing a bra. Besides the awful dress she was wearing, her breasts seemed to be hanging a little low (head lights on).

Philip Seymour Hoffman did not thank the Hollywood foreign press. Always considered a no-no.

Joaquin Phoenix didn't thank Reese Witherspoon (I think she thanked him).

Mariah Carey seems to have gained some weight.

Melanie Griffith looked sober.

And a question:

Why are movies about musicians or music labelled under the category of musical (Motion Picture- Musical or Comedy)?
If you've ever seen a musical in your life, you know that films like Walk the Line and Ray (last year) are not one of them.

Joaquin did thank the cast of Walk The Line, just not Reese personally.

I think they do that, because nowadays that IS a musical. There is alot of music in them. I mean, I don't think we will be seeing a movie like Sound of Music anytime soon, so basically any movie where the stars sing is going to be considered a musical from now on.

actually, there's been Chicago, Rent, Moulin Rouge, Hedwig And The Angry Inch among others just in the past few years that are definately in the "character break into song" way, IMO, that's a musical, Walk The Line and Ray are dramas.

a few mental notes...

- I wonder if there's goign to be a lot of tension now that Felicity Huffman has won an award for a MOVIE next to her co-stars

- Cynthia Nixon looks fantastic with her new extensions, longer hair looks good on her

- why didn't Joaquin go up there and sing a few notes of "A Boy Named Sue" and then expected the crowd to sing along with him, like Jamie Foxx did last year?

- I think Ryan Phillippe got more camera-time just being the husband of Reese Witherspoon tonight than he has had in five years

- what's with all these British actors playing American characters? (Hugh Laurie and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers both won for playing Americans)

I agree. The official name for them is a biopic. Kevin Spacey was terrific in the biopic, Beyond The Sea, which chronicled Bobby Darin's life.

For once, Pamela Anderson was covered up and we didn't get to see HER GOLDEN GLOBES.

I thought Geena Davis' acceptance speech for her role on Commander-in-Chief where she told of meeting a little girl who told her she now wanted to be President of the United States from watching her show... then to tell everyone it didn't actually happen... was the highlight of the evening!
