My computer hates me

I've been trying to stick the Memory Stick Pro into my K drive, but my computer doesn't read it. In fact, no prompts ever pop up when I put the device in and Removable Drive K doesn't even show up when I click on My Computer! This is very frustrating because I just took some ultra cool pictures for my MySpace (FINALLY!!) and now I can't upload them. Anyone wanna help me solve my little technical difficulty?

is this a built-in card reader? or is an external USB one?

if the drive isnt showing in Windows, then Windows doesnt think it is attached

dumb things like that happen a lot to me so i usually just get mad and forget about it.
lately my computer has randomly been shutting down since my privacy service expired. eh.

Eh? What do you mean? The port for the Memory Stick is in my computer.

When my mom's CD-ROM drive died the computer just thought it wasn't there. The same thing happened when the modem went out. And the speakers and the mouse and the floppy drive... Obviously it's an old computer. Anyway, I don't know if that's the kind of thing Roby's talking about or not.

since this is an internal card reader, it has to be a driver problem - the driver is what lets the computer know what type of device it is and tells it how to communicate with it. if the driver gets "broken", Windows wont be able to recognize it.

If you right-click on My Computer, go to properties, then click on the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager button. (or click Start, Run, and then type devmgmt.msc and enter) This gives you a list of all the devices on your computer that Windows has loaded drivers for - if anything in there has a problem it will have and exclamation mark or a red "X" in front of it.

if you have an "unknown" device or if it shows a problem device, you can reload the driver by right-clicking on the item and clicking on "remove", this will force Windows to reinstall the driver when it detects it after your next boot.
