Sad Please tell me this isn't true!!

This is from The National Enquirer, so take it for what it's worth.

DENZEL DIVORCE SHOCKER!
Friday January 13, 2006

By PATRICIA SHIPP

Denzel Washington and his wife of 22 years may be headed for trouble — and insiders say it's because of the fear that the Oscar winner is a serial cheater! Sources have told The National Enquirer that 50-year-old Denzel's long-rumored extra-marital activity — particularly rumors of a relationship with pretty actress Sanaa Lathan, 34 — have caused major upheaval in what was once considered one of Hollywood's most rock solid marriages.

Said a friend: "People have speculated about Denzel having affairs for a long time. But I wouldn't be surprised if the recent reports about Sanaa have gotten under his wife Pauletta's skin like nothing else has."

Indeed sources say the couple could be headed for divorce after a furious bust-up that ended in Denzel moving out of the couple's $10 million house in California.

Sadly, these things don;t surprize me anymore. It seems like there has been a huge increase in Hollywood breakups lately.

Funny, Marcello Mastroianni had affairs with every actress in Europe and a few in North America, and he stayed married. When he died in 1996, he had yet another mistress, and a former mistress of his - a dame you've probably never heard of, Catherine Deneuve - and their daughter went to Italy for the funeral. And no one cared. In America, Mastroianni's career would have been ruined.

well, I think part of it is because Denzel has really pushed the "devoted husband" aspect, so when he cheated on his wife, it really turned people off. It reminds me of when Kevin Costner, another actor who really put out the image of a "doting dad and loving husband" for a number of years was busted having an affair, it completely ruined his "good guy" image and while he's had middling success since then, he will never again enjoy the popularity he had in the early 1990's because cheating on his wife was a direct contradiction of what he represented himself as.

Why do people even bother getting married these days? Marriage is becoming obsolete.

The only people who should care are the spouses who are being cheated on. They should get checked for STD's and HIV & AIDS. Mr. Mastroianni had affairs because his wife chose to stay with him, obviously for security and other factors. Some spouses, especially women, tolerate such indiscretion. It has nothing to do with Europe or America. It's all abt what the spouse is willing to put up with.

Denzel has not actually divorced, and I sure hope he doesn't. Being married since June 25, 1983 is a rarity indeed for a movie star. In a couple of years, I hope he can celebrate his silver anniversary.

well, considering he cheated on his wife, why should his wife stay with him?

I wouldn't want to celebrate something if there is indeed infidelity on either party's part. You are supposed to celebrate a great marriage, not the amount of years you are together.

You know, alot of people seem to forget the fact that a couple can be married for decades, but if their is infidelity, distrust, jealousy, alot of negative factors, then why should they be congratulated for being married for so long???? I wouldn't want to be in a long marriage and have infidelity or anything else that makes me or my spouse miserable. Too many celebs remain together for a long time, doesn't mean it's a great marriage. This is kind of far-fetched, but Snoop Dog's wife remains married to him even though he has cheated on her. She stays for the fringe benefits. What kind of marriage is that???
