This one dude, I met in fifth grade. He was my best friend at the time. We were like brothers. We did everything together. Ate lunch, partnered up when doing special things, everything. I transferred out of the school and didn't see him until two years later in middle school. We picked up where we left off, but in the middle of that year, he became distant. He started hanging with other people. That's cool, but we WERE tight. Even his cousin asked why we weren't hanging. Came 8th grade, we were in different sections, so we didn't see one another until school was done for the day. When we did meet, it was like, "What's up?" and we hung with other people. Came high school, we were in diferent schools and we seen one another occasionally. Then, when we both graduated from High school, we bumped into each other again, and exchanged numbers. I was excited because I always considered him my best friend of all time. When I called him, he didn't have much to say other than how are things going. Everytime I called, he had limited conversation, and always had to hang up. The final straw was when I called him and he told me he was on a long distance call. I knew he was lying and didn't want to be bothered, so I never called or heard from him in 10 years. I just let things be. We all have to get on with our lives, but I always thought friendship was the most strongest thing behind family.

I had a best friend in grade school. We did everything together. One year, he moved away and I thought that was the end of the friendship. A few months later, he moved back and we resumed the friendship. One day, he said hewanted to have a party and asked me if I could help him invite some people. I did. The day of the party, I asked him for directions to his new house. He rushed me off the phone, saying he had to go that guests were arriving. He hung up on me without giving me the directions to his house. I never heard from him again.

Childhood friendships are always a touchy subject. Things are usually always happening (growing up, shifting from levels of education of elementary, junior high and high school), new schools, levels of interests, etc. There is always a shift of change happening during these years. I heard this is very common, but I do see it can be frustrating at the same time.
Some childhood friendships were probably only meant to be "only" childhood friendships. I have come across a cople of required schooling friends on-and-off. We bump into each other from time to time. We greet each other and catch up on each other's lives. We usually say, "we gotta get together," but it never happens because of our busy lives. Even if we don't contact one another as often, we still remember one another in our hearts. Now, these are childhood/high school friends I am talking about. It seems I take less offense of these friends more so than current/out of school friendships. Maybe along the line you may bump into each other or contact each other and then pick up from there? It can be possible, but don't be totally dependent on it; otherwise, it can lead to be disappointing. |

Ten years ago i had a large group of friends I hung around with on a regular basis. Over the years, some of them got married and settled down, others simply drifted away because of careers or lifestyle change.
I just got word that a friend of mine got engaged over the holidays. This is a person who I used to spend lots of time with when I first moved to New York. But over the years, she got really busy with her job, started travelling alot on business, and she just stopped hanging around with us. I occasionally run into her, but I can't remember the last time that happened. It's a bit sad, but that's how things turn out sometimes. |

I think that happens with a lot of people. I don't know too many adults who still have the same friends that they had in Elementary school. I certainly don't. Lost touch with them mainly because as we grew older our interests began to differ. It would be nice to have had at least one close friend all throughout childhhood that lasted into adulthood but it just didn't happen.

It happens to everybody. I don't have any connection at all with anybody I was friends with as a child or with anybody I went to school with. As I grew older I knew I had developed a whole slew of different interests that would not cater to most small town teens. Even by high school I was pretty much a loner because I could no longer relate to small town life or the kids in my school. I considered them dull so maybe it was my fault a little bit. I drove an hour away to the city and made friends there in clubs and places.
Even as an adult I don't find myself with a lot of friends. Most adults are tied down with work, marriage, and kids. |

I've lost all my friends. Because apparently people hate me.
Well okay, not all of them, but most. One who sounds very similar to your friend, Kool. |
